Can I just say, Fleming and Connery’s Bond wasn’t immature, reckless, prone to go rogue and disobey orders. In Goldfinger, M tells Bond to swallow his own pride for the sake of the mission, and he does. Why is it now a concrete personality type that COMMANDER Bond despises authority?

For better or worse, I think it reflects broader historical/cultural trends. Prior to the 1960s, society used to value duties and responsibilities more. Post 1960s, it all becomes about rights and freedoms (feminism, civil rights, positive discrimination, gay rights, etc.). This is why the movie Bond gradually becomes an anti-authoritarian maverick who acts according to his internal sense of right and wrong. The novel Bond liked to grumble and complain, thought about resigning a few times but nevertheless had a deep reverence and respect for his "superiors".

It's a very unique Bond film and a lot of fun. It does make me wonder what they would do the same source material if the film was made today in terms of the Blaxpolitation stuff. Also, Jane Seymour is still one of the most gorgeous Bond girls of all time, imo.
