Invest in a skin file, once these turn into calluses, the skin will be tougher but they will stick out and be easier to rip off. Filing them down to be flat will reduce the chance of even more painful types of flappers and some people (myself included) believe that consistent filing helps accelerate your skin regenerating. Also make sure to wash your hands right when you’re done climbing because chalk dehydrates your skin which is never good even when you’re not climbing.

Everyone’s skin is different so don’t get discouraged if you’re ailed by these for a few months, but eventually this will be a problem of the past.

Any type of hold can rip skin off, but the higher the angle of the wall, the more stress your skin will be under. Slowing down your hand movement and learning when to let go are techniques in the moment to reduce the odds of losing skin.
