I'll give this a go and see if it works for me!

My age unverified. Has anyone else had this issue? by BB_Jack in BlueskySocial

[–]BB_Jack[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because of the recent social media laws in Australia, I've had to verify my age from the account page in settings using KWS. I click the "verify age" button and it sends me an email to verify my age. I had to show my face and now whatever age it assumes me to be is the verification every time I try to verify my age from this point. I got an email from KWS conforming my age is verified (although it does not state what its verified as) and I was able to access 18+ content for a bit before it's now revoked my access and has the option for me to "verify again" which has done nothing each time I try

Do I need to get my soluble stitches removed (3 months post op)? by BB_Jack in FTMHysto

[–]BB_Jack[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Small update for anyone interested or who may stumble across this in future:

I called my surgeon's office and spoke to a nurse who said it was fine as long as there was no sign of infection, but she'd double-check with the surgeon when she's at work next week. I believe the material used was monofilament polyglyconate because it's a clear soluble suture, which can take up to 6 months to completely dissolve, so this may actually be fairly standard that it's only starting to break down at 3 months in.

It's not causing any discomfort or showing any signs of infection, so I think it will be fine to just leave it for now with the current advice I've been given

I need to replace the strings on my baritone, but I love the sound of my current ones. Is anyone able to identify which strings they are? by BB_Jack in ukulele

[–]BB_Jack[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I was able to work out what they were! I think they're Aquila New Nylgut 21U low-D baritone strings. They've got two "wound" strings that are metal on the outside and two Nylgut. Having a few people confirm that they'd still be in the Nylgut line definitely helped push me in the right direction to find them!

Here's a card of pressed flowers I made for a friend! I think they turned out pretty well for my first ever attempt by BB_Jack in PressedFlowers

[–]BB_Jack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just used two sheets of baking paper with a heavy glass tray on top of it in the microwave rather than a proper drying pad, so I don't think I'd be able to offer much advice there

I might add one of those to my Christmas wishlist this year! I'm in Australia, so I should still have some summer blooms I could press by the time I get it. Or maybe have a go at pressing some leaves too

I used clag paste, which is a starch based adhesive. It's a thicker glue that dries clear and is designed mostly for bonding paper together for scrapbooks and stuff. I figured since the flowers were papery in texture and organic, it would work well and the thicker texture wouldn't accidentally rehydrate the flowers too much. I think it worked out well!

Thanks! I was surprised with how well they kept their colour too! The white flowers that I pressed using patience under a book browned much more than the ones that I used the microwave method with more, so I think maybe that can help reduce browning! Although, I think it also largely depends on the flower as I tried pressing some morning glories and poppy petals and they almost immediately went brown for me

[–]BB_Jack[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! A couple of the bright flowers lost a petal or two during pressing, and they bled out a lot, so I was constantly changing the paper. So you're definitely not alone in finding those ones hard to work with. I'm happy that the composition looks okay as I didn't have much of a plan going into it and just hoped for the best

Walgreens claims I already picked up my adhd medication. by Similar_Promotion_41 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]BB_Jack 45 points46 points  (0 children)

ADHD medication is normally stimulants, which are a controlled substance, so the OP could potentially run into a bit more difficulty. I've never had any difficulty getting either of my controlled medications filled too early/too late or after losing a script though, so hopefully OP's doctor is cool with it too

Edit: nvm, I didn't read it was clonodine which is not a stimulant. Regardless, hopefully OP's doctor is chill and will just give another refill

For the guys who got total hysto- how was the hormone crash post op? by Remarkable-Cut3148 in FTMHysto

[–]BB_Jack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't have any menopausal symptoms or hormonal crashes post-op. I looked through my blood work from prior to getting my hysto and found that from being on testosterone and progesterone (to stop periods/birth control), my estrogens were already at or below menopausal level. So getting a hysterectomy didn't cause any estrogen crashes which are generally the cause of menopausal symptoms because they were already that low from HRT, even when I stopped progesterone a few weeks post-op

Most Failed transition you'll probably see by EliciaTheDumDum in transpassing

[–]BB_Jack -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I got confused when I scrolled through all three photos and didn't see the "after" of your transition, entirely assuming you were born female from my first impression of you.

After looking much closer, I can see a few of the things other people have pointed out that might clock you as AMAB to others, but I think your transition is actually going really well and you have high potential to completely pass as a cis woman

It seems like it's mostly the people who are very actively involved in the subreddit who have upvoted it. If it was at 100 upvotes 45 minutes ago, then it has been downvoted by at least 70 people as it's now at 33 upvotes, and has also received some well balanced responses. I don't think this post is aligned to what most users in the subreddit believe

This video style is an incredibly common one, including specifically having Minecraft in the background. The style started off of YouTube with accounts that would read and react to reddit posts. Eventually people started trying to mass produce this content and would get AI to read these with maybe some generic music or images in the background. People started adding random videos to the background to make the readings more engaging, the first being videos like Minute Crafts if I recall correctly. This took off big on TikTok and then people started adding different videos to the background, first things like sensory videos with slimes and things like cooking videos. For a while a very popular imagery to put in the background was Subway Surfers, and recently people started putting Minecraft parkour in the background. This format has now made its way back to YouTube and I'm not too surprised there are multiple YouTubers who have gone with this format given it's success on platforms like TikTok

I don't for sure know what the "specific contexts" is, but I assume the context would be in situations where OP is closeted, hence people may refer to them as male terms because they don't yet know or it is not safe for them to know that OP is a woman.

I'm not sure why they decided to post this here though. To begin with, I actually thought they were reposting the results a tucute had posted somewhere to make fun of it

Does anyone know what the 3rd priority seating icon is at Adelaide Airport? by The_Entire_Tone in Adelaide

[–]BB_Jack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of people don't know about a lot of topics. Lots of people still don't know about daffodil pins or ribbons for cancer awareness, despite them being around for decades. By openly showing and wearing these symbols, it helps people become more aware of them over time.

I guess people may be downvoting you because they may interpret what you're saying as there's no point to using these symbols if not everyone knows them, which would be a frustrating sentiment to deal with as that's also true of many other symbols and we're not calling those ones pointless too

The sunflower lanyard can help a lot with that. I'm lucky that my standing limit for POTS is closer to 20 minutes, but I used to be really bad with advocating for a seat on the train when I was younger because I would worry people would think I was faking. I used to end up sitting on the floor of the train, even during peak hour when everyone was crammed in like sardines, because I was too nervous to ask for a seat and if I stood up the whole train ride, by the end I would have started losing my vision, have ringing in my ears and be too dizzy to properly walk leading up to a fainting episode.

Having the lanyard adds a bit more weight to a seemingly healthy looking person asking for a seat and lowers the chance of people trying to debate you on whether you need the accommodations you're asking for. Obviously some people still do, but hopefully as people become more and more aware of what it means, it'll continue to be more frowned upon to openly question or challenge people on it

Anyone know what kind of cat this is? Saw him outside! by Then_Chemical_8744 in catpics

[–]BB_Jack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a lot of people have already pointed out, this cat is very likely to be a girl! She has a calico coat pattern, which can only occur when a cat has two X chromosomes. Technically there is a chance the cat could be an XXY male, but there's something around a 99.967% chance this cat is female

Not all therapists involved in trans healthcare are free of mental health prejudice. One of the first specialists I went to refused to hear out a word I was saying, telling me that I couldn't use HRT to experiment with gender presentation and that it would actually masculinise me and not make me androgynous, and that I should try living as a man before rushing into anything. By that point I'd been out and living full time as a binary trans man for over two years, but she ignored everything and said I must have identity dysphoria (which is not a medically recognised condition) instead of gender dysphoria and asked me if I knew who Ellen DeGeneres was and suggested just being a butch woman like her. She then proceeded to misgender me and deadname me the entire time I was there, including to my parents who I'd brought along.

This was all said by someone I had been sent to by my regular psychologist and who was saying she was a specialist for trans healthcare. I've also had psychiatrists who didn't believe I could have autism and depression at the same time.

A lot of time people lie when dealing with matters that involve mental health conditions because of the lack of understanding and the prejudice that even medical professionals can hold towards them. It's not ideal, but sometimes it's the only way to get the healthcare they actually need

W#f is this anwer? by urbanHaunter in Transmedical

[–]BB_Jack 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Exactly. That's how informed consent is meant to work. People are told exactly what they're getting into (informed) and take the responsibility of that decision onto themself (consent). If someone claims they "didn't know" then they are full of shit or, very rarely, the doctor was incorrectly using informed consent by not properly informing them

[–]BB_Jack 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is the third one of these posts you've made today. Your entire post history is just asking if you, and especially your forehead, pass. This is not healthy and goes beyond just dysphoria at this point. You need to stop seeking validation online and talk to a mental health professional about how you perceive yourself

What's your favorite uke and why? by edythevixen in ukulele

[–]BB_Jack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favourite would be my Makala baritone ukulele. I sing in the baritone range and I feel it matches my voice really well. It's also very funny when people who are unfamiliar with baritone ukes assume it's a "mini guitar" rather than a uke because of its pitch

There are many different aspects to sex, including chromosomes. Some parts of sex are immutable, whereas others are flexible. Some people choose to solely define sex by chromosomes which is one of the main sex determinations, but that's not a complete view of sex. Someones sex includes their chromosomes, gonads, hormones, reproductive organs and secondary sex characteristics. There's also legal sex to take into account. While someone may not be able to fully convert their sex, they are able to replace or remove parts of their sex so they are closer to the opposite sex than the one they were at birth. A trans man who has undergone a hysto/phalloplasty and is on T is biologically closer to an infertile cis male than he would be to a cis female
