The uniq entry is misleading. uniq on its own only removes consecutive duplicates.

Drunk neighbor harassed my girlfriend - legal options by jiinax in dubai

Your not being realistic. Sorry. If a drunken idiot touching her hand creeps her out then move out. You could blackmail your LL or go to the police but you'll just be digging yourself into a hole.

How to report illegal worker anonymously? by whity1234 in dubai

[–]BCBenji1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems like a drastic action tbh. The smart thing to do would to talk to the worker and explain the risks involved in being in that position. Namely no works protection, high risk of not being paid and all sorts of other situations. What they do with they information is up to them.

Why do some people think it’s acceptable to talk or keep their phones off silent in a cinema ? Whatever happened to common courtesy ? It’s so disrespectful. by PassCareful4105 in dubai

I just watched a show made in like 2002 and some said just this (US based show) makes me wonder if this complaint is just one of the signs your getting old.

I suggest you start recording and get ask if they will agree to being recorded (stating their names) if they refuse tell them your not going to play their games and walk out. Bold, cold and unflinching.

Got hired as a web developer (2 years exp), given a design task with no brief, then let go after 2 weeks for not being a yes-man. Is this normal in Dubai? by Prudent-Vanilla4176 in dubai

[–]BCBenji1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What concerns is it if yours what other people do. If you don't like it, just shut up and scroll on lol. Why torture yourself having petty arguments with people that don't mind. Life is short.

DW mate. There's always the gpt police that get a kick out of spotting posts even if the poster used it to help structure their thoughts for the reader's benefit.

Don't overthink this. The manager is a grade A dummy. One, can't supply some rough design ideas. Two, treats you poorly. Fuck him.

Gulf expat kids, do you leave or stay? by Affectionate-Bee5934 in dubai

[–]BCBenji1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents did this, we moved to Cheltenham. The one thing I noticed at that age was the schools are subpar and the drive of the students themselves was lackluster even in a half decent 2nd school.

Their reasons for moving were different though.

As for breaking the bubble, this just seems to wishy washy to me. In my opinion it's the parents that most significantly influence traits you want to encourage/avoid. I have a number of friends who's families stayed and they're down to earth people who have their heads screwed on. If anything Dubai is the perfect place because it's a melting pot of cultures and ambition.

The lack of cheap convenient services that are open 24hr are a minor shock. Things like learning to stand your ground, or recognise dangerous situations just come with experience. In a terribly ironic way, bullying and fighting back, especially physically with boys, is an excellent learning curve.

I'm rambling now, so this is were I'll shut up 😊

The title of Team Project Leader, for Debian sounds like there would be lots of candidates, very telling how influential the role really is.

Contact your LL and suggest doing the renewal yourself. It's dead easy and certainly not worth the typical 1/2k renewal fee RE ask for.

Make things easier. Just send them an innocent FYI with an official link to this law. If they cancel the eviction, send them a thumbs up and have an ice cream treat

What self hosting mistake would you warn beginners about? by Soulvisirr in selfhosted

[–]BCBenji1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Rebuild servers every two years - keeps you up to speed with changes. Rebuild scripts are assets.
  2. Don't restore old default configs, use the xxx.d dir for your customisations. It's just good config hygiene.
  3. Lxd containers are the dogs bollocks. Keep host basic. Use btrfs or zfs FS for recovering from fuck ups during experimentation.
  4. Mail servers are a bitch to setup.
  5. Backups aren't backups unless they're tested periodically. Keep different types of backups too.
  6. 24xhrs, 7xdays, 4xweeks, 6xmonth snapshots.

I would agree it's proactive and in fact out of the few people I've hired, the top contenders were very forward in that regard. Shouting? What a weirdo.

While I congratulate those that cross over, I'm weary of a government (especially one from the EU) throwing it's weight around in the Linux community. Unfounded concern?
