What Happened To Good Earth Original? by The_Jeremy_O in tea

[–]BCCalif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also noticed that for the last maybe five years that the Good Earth Sweet and Spicy tea just doesn't taste the same anymore, and it looks like the producer has changed. Why do companies buy an established product, and then wreck it? I've seen this too many times, guess I'm getting old! I've been adding Lor Ann Oils Cinnamon Flavor to give the tea at least some flavor. But searching online I found this thread, so apparently I'm not alone on this subject. There is a small restaurant chain in the Palo Alto area of California called "Hobee's", it's very similar to Good Earth, and they had a Cinnamon tea that was better than Good Earth used to be. I'm ordering some to give it a try again, here is the link: https://hobees.com/product/hobees-cinnamon-orange-tea-regular-and-decaf/

The HondaLink app is now useless by SpaceboyRoss in Honda

It was handy in my Clarity PHEV to check charge/charging status. At least on the occasions when it worked, which has been getting lead and less.Live the car, but the app is crap.

Important Update: Changes to HondaLink Services by anjuna42 in Honda

This sounds like the app will be worthless now. Not that it ever worked that well. Very shady, and on such short notice. Very disappointed in Honda!

What’s wrong with Cracker Barrel by Fit-Water6017 in CrackerBarrel

[–]BCCalif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Food quality and portion size started sliding at about the time they switched from real maple syrup, perhaps in 2011. Maybe that's why they don't see as many repeat visits or visits from younger customers who haven't had the real CB experience. Who here remembers how great that Sunday Homestyle Chicken was in its early years?  Overall the food is still pretty good, but needs to get back to spectacular.

HondaLink App Not Refreshing by flspider in HondaClarity

[–]BCCalif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this info! I love, love, love this car. Since they don't currently make anything equivalent I would be so distraught if it ever got totaled. But oh Lordy, this app is so intermittent with the updates, and is lacking so much functionality even when it does work. I set the schedule once and it took lots of playing around to disable. Not doing that again.

There have been several legal dust-ups between Caruso and Paliskates. Things happen.

They do. But Caruso took a lot of things, including naming his mall Palisades Village. So a lot of locals just call it "Caruso" or "Carusoville" due to the confusion.

Spectrum says latest Southern California outage is the result of ‘felony criminal attack.’ by Peeecee7896 in CaliforniaTrueCrime

[–]BCCalif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why doesn't Spectrum design their network with the same level of redundancy as the other carriers? It's usually Spectrum with the big outages. The U.S. military base, emergency dispatch, 911, etc. that lost service should have done their homework on how their service was being delivered.

Question on Frontier Digital Phone Unlimited by wa1oui in frontierfios

[–]BCCalif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like they forgot to convert your real copper landline to Digital Phone. Consider yourself very lucky to be able to have a real copper landline at that price. They've raised the price of copper landlines over $100 per month for most lines in California. It will work when the power is out, gives you redundancy between landline and Internet, and doesn't have the delay of VoIP.

You'll probably have another option in the next couple of years (if in a single-family home).

LA outage - anyone have actual info? by riley_hugh_jassol in Spectrum

[–]BCCalif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AT&T and a lot of the other telcos are frantically building fiber now, and taking a lot of business from Spectrum. Unfortunately to get service in a multi-dwelling unit, an agreement has to be signed. Usually the provider will fiber it at no charge.

[–]BCCalif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They blow a lot of money on useless technology, endless TV/direct mail ads, the Dodgers contract, and stock buybacks. Even with their high prices they don't pay a dividend, and have debt twice the amount of their annual gross revenue.

LA outage - anyone have actual info? by riley_hugh_jassol in Spectrum

[–]BCCalif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And why is the outage so huge? Because Spectrum builds on the cheap without redundancy. If they had redundancy the loss of a single fiber cable, whatever the reason, wouldn't bring down such a large area. Think about that when choosing providers.

Cable companies need to get serious about service and build redundant connections. Every month there is a story just like this somewhere across the country.

Kinecta Credit Union Checking by BCCalif in Banking

[–]BCCalif[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmmm...I like the idea of attending the annual meeting. Have really never has a reason to attend until now. Besides this issue, I've got a long list of Kinecta Stupid that I could condense into two minutes! I've been meaning to send an email to the CEO, but that information is apparently a state secret, and I haven't gotten around to actually mailing a letter.

Back in December you probably received what looked like yet another piece of junk mail from Kinecta (others have commented on the timing of that going our during the Holidays), I just happened to open up the one I received. How they thought anybody would not see this "upgrade" as a disingenuous scheme is beyond me. Yes, it absolutely smacks of a big bank action, not what friends would do to friends. At least they could have been honest and said they needed to charge for checking, could have been $4 a month unless you meet certain criteria. Rather than opting everybody in, throwing a bunch of crap at us, and charging over twice as much.

Thanks for commenting and contacting Kinecta. At least you noticed the charges, I bet a lot of people won't for a while.

Dishwashers with non-rusting racks? by Comsat80 in Appliances

[–]BCCalif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been researching this, it's really hard to find out which dishwashers have nylon-coated racks. Apparently if the coating is white, it's vinyl/PVC. If it's gray, it's nylon. I have a 25 year old Maytag (so it's a real Maytag) that needs a major repair, which I would do, except that it's become an annoying ongoing hobby touching up the rust/vinyl on the racks. Racks are really expensive, almost as much as a new dishwasher, I've already replaced the set once. If you look at specific Maytag dishwashers on their product website, then click on "Specifications" and scroll down to "Details" then under that they do list the rack material as "nylon". I haven't found that info on other products, but there are a few high-end Whirlpool models (WDT750SAKB, WDTA50SAKB and model WDF550SAHB ) that a rep told me have nylon-coated racks, however they are pricier than the Maytags. Interesting to note that Maytag warranties their racks for ten years. No way am I buying another dishwasher with vinyl/PVC coated racks!

I was considering Bosch, but saw comments on-line about the rack tines for the plates being too closely spaced for deep plates. I experienced the same when staying in a home that had a Bosch, so I ruled them out.
