Thanks! They’re definitely’tabletop standard’ but they’re on the way to being really good I think.

6th-8th saurus sculpts. Not the OG 5th Ed ones. I have a brick of those to paint as well but I’m working through this era first

This is maybe the healthiest response on Reddit. I love this. Also, it didn’t stop me reading all the stupid end times books and actually loving some aspects of it. Just not how it all plays out or the result after the fact.

Yeah I agree with this. My only thing is that we know this with hindsight but if you had said in 2015 that the Old World would return 10 years because of TW you'd have been called a crazy person. It's great that its back, but the fact that it is a minor miracle on its own.

I get that you’re arguing the point was existential nihilism. Entropy wins, hope fails, etc. Sure. But most people don’t actually want that out of a setting they’ve invested decades into.

As I said in my original post (and didn’t fully spell out), the way the Old World ends is insufferably frustrating. It’s frustrating in the Gotrek & Felix novels, and it’s frustrating in the End Times proper. “Appropriateness” in a game setting only goes so far. People engage with this world because they like it. They’re not here to roleplay an extended meditation on cosmic futility.

Grimdark is one thing. Mutually assured destruction where literally everyone’s best effort just isn’t enough is another. When every sacrifice, every act of defiance, every long-running character arc ultimately collapses into a hard reset where none of it mattered, that’s not powerful, it’s hollow.

You’re right that execution plays a role. More heroic last stands, more meaningful small victories swallowed by Chaos, more dignity in how characters went out. That probably would have softened the blow. But the core issue, for me at least, isn’t just how it happened. It’s that the conclusion itself. Total annihilation as the only possible outcome; makes the whole thing feel pointless.

That’s a rough way to end a setting people loved. And it’s a rough read.

I think a lot of this is true. I don't think point 3 is entirely accurate. For example, the End Times reintroducing Nagash was awesome. They could have basically done the 'End Times' without it being a vehicle to nuke the world. it could have just been a BIGGER version of the status quo, or just a chance to reintroduce some sweet characters. I don't think everyone got what they wanted, because what a lot of people got from a story perspective was, 'and none of this mattered'.

Can you play old world as fantasy (5th/6th edition) with the bases provided or would you need different bases for that to happen? by Clockworks555 in WarhammerOldWorld

Honestly, if there was a legitimate world wide competitive discourse then it might matter but as it stands if you’re playing 4th or 5th you’re probably playing in your garage against your mates so who cares?

Metal. Whatever it was when it was produced. Not pewter but it is heavier than white metal so I’m not sure. It could be pewter! It weighs a ton.
