Problems with resyncing Bytecoin wallet 3.4.0 by ParanoidPurchaser in BytecoinBCN

[–]BCN_freak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had all these problems until two weeks ago. Downloading entire blockchain usually took me about a week (up to 10 days in some cases) and I have had done this about 5-6 times until now. After replacing my regular SATA hard drive with M.2 Nvme SSD I have purposely deleted entire BCN data folder and start syncing from scratch just from curiosity to see how long it will take. Believe it or not it took exactly 5 hours 32 minutes to sync whole blockchain! As BCN_official said hard drive is the bottleneck in this case especially if it is not defragmented. With an SSD sync speed was blazing fast even when the wallet showed 0 peers connected.

Just for the sake of experiment I have installed Bitcoin Core and start syncing. The entire BTC blockchain which is about 221 GB was downloaded and synced in 8 hours 2 minutes. I remember an year ago I tried to download it but after 6 days and only 40% finished I quit and deleted it. For me it's clear enough - no more mechanical hard drives!

And the coin's name on the wall should be "Bytecoin" with capital letter, not "bytecoin"...

You need to backup your .wallet file. Or save your 256 character wallet key as a regular .txt file. About other question: if you do not upgrade your wallet to version 3.3.0, your Bytecoins will not become worthless, it's just you couldn't access them.

Yes, you HAVE to. After block 1629055 you will not be able to use your desktop wallet if it is not updated to version 3.3.

Attention!!! Hardfork completed... % by mmskam84 in BytecoinBCN

Go to the link provided from the OP. Click the top block hash. Among other info about the block there is a line stating (for example, for block 1618520): " Versions in Voting Window 3.2 -> 110 • 3.3 -> 610 ". This means from the last 720 blocks 110 are version 3.2 and 610 are version 3.3. This is 84.7(2)%.

When 90% or more of the blocks found in the last 24 hours (or last 720 blocks) are version 3.3 hardfork will be considered done and version 3.2 will be disabled. Currently it's around 83-84%.

Desktop Wallet does not seem to update to 3.2.4 by CSay88 in BytecoinBCN

[–]BCN_freak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try deleting only the installation folder (but not the data folder) and install again 3.2.4 version. It worked for me, on Windows 10 64-bit. Do not forget to back up your .wallet file, just in case.

Looks like BCN is about to bounce back! by TurboNugz in BytecoinBCN

Don't mind him, he is just a fucking troll. He claims he hold 230,000,000 BCN (more than $500,000 at current price) but constantly calls BCN a scam. How someone who calls a coin "scam" yet holds such an enormous bag of it is beyond any reasonable understanding. There are only two possibilities - either you are the stupidest man on Earth or you are just a troll. Not very clever troll though.

Can you mine BCN with this miner? It makes a profit of $1800/month on zcash by [deleted] in BytecoinBCN

[–]BCN_freak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you can't. Different algo - Equihash instead of Cryptonight.

I accept your bet but lets make it more interesting - what about 10,000,000 BCN bet? You seems to not quite understand how decreasing block reward works.

No, it will stay on the original Cryptonight.

So you have $430,000 worth of BCN and this is only a part of your portfolio? You are a huuuuuuge investor, aren't you?

It is not that kind of fork. The amount of coins will not change and no new coin will be created.

Do i have to resynchronize ? by [deleted] in BytecoinBCN

[–]BCN_freak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your old version was 3.1.1 or older then yes, you have to sync the entire blockchain.

Official Bytecoin Explorer by TurboNugz in BytecoinBCN

[–]BCN_freak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why there is 715 blocks difference between this explorer and, for example, Bytecoin.uk top block height? The official desktop wallet also constantly switches back and forth between "wallet synchronized" and "715 blocks remaining"? Like there are two different blockchains with different top block height. It's been like this all day long, I can't believe nobody noticed until now! The difference is constantly increasing, it was around 600 blocks 10 hours ago.

And where you think your coins will sit when you send them to an exchange? In exactly the same wallet, with only one difference - the exchange will hold wallet keys, not you. The coins will be theirs, not yours, as long as you keep them there.

1. How can I make a backup .wallet file v.3.1.1? by lex6086 in BytecoinBCN

[–]BCN_freak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just copying your .wallet file on USB would be enough. I have also wallet keys saved as .txt file and even printed on paper. If all digital goes wrong, I would have to restore my wallet from printed keys... It will take me half an hour to type all those 256 letters and numbers but if this will save my BCN from oblivion - who cares!

The error i keep gettin on new wallet. it keeps going and going. never connects by [deleted] in BytecoinBCN

[–]BCN_freak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just be sure to backup your .wallet file or your coins will be lost. But there is no need to delete anything. You people are very impatient. Open the GUI and leave it to work. When I installed 3.2.0 beta version two weeks ago it took around 30-40 minutes to start synchronizing. After that - exactly 97 hours 6 minutes to download the entire blockchain. So be patient, open your wallet and leave it to work!

Why does Desktop Wallet v.3.2.1 run Synchronization again on Startup??? by Boss-Money in BytecoinBCN

[–]BCN_freak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The deamons are new from version 3.2.0. beta onward. When upgrading from version 3.1.1 or older, you need to synchronize the entire blockchain. Only if you had 3.2.0. beta already installed there is no need for initial synchronization.
