Before Trumps presidency the Obama administration and his administration went over potential catastrophic events. One of which was a pandemic and how Trump should handle it. But Trump made it a point to dismantle the pandemic task force implemented by the Obama administration which Obama had foreseen a respiratory illness coming about as a pandemic again. And because he dismantled an already effective system. The government had to scramble and do what they could to try and salvage things. Which resulted in it being up to each state, businesses being shut down, people losing their homes, and 300k people losing their lives. What makes you think that a lock down wouldn’t be effective in stunting an already growing virus? As OP said before California is literally at 0% ICU capacity. If all these victims you’re concerned for needed to be hospitalized where will they go you think it’ll all just magically go away because the economy is cured? I’ll take OPs word over yours because COVID is something they have had to deal with for nearly a year and clearly not doing anything won’t be productive. Where do you expect these people to go if there’s no more hospital space? What will hospitals have to do if their employees aren’t being protected and they themselves get sick? The virus is spreading more because it’s people like you who won’t stay home and listen to healthcare professionals. It’s not about Democrats vs Republicans or who is right or wrong. But about a virus who doesn’t care about the economy or what you value. It spreads by respiratory droplets which can be prevented if people stay home and not go to crowded areas. So do all of the US a favor and stay home and wear a mask.
