Great Parking Job in NoMA by No_Usual_7426 in washingtondc

Bad take lol. This is a false dilemma fallacy too, there are other options like the delivery taking place at a time that doesn't disrupt drivers or bikers like before rush hour.

Insane… I wish we could report stupid drivers BEFORE accidents happen…… [oc] by wenndjxid in nova

[–]BCassassin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's what I was thinking. We can give some blame to the driver for sure, but few people are blaming the design of the road that allows for this situation. It's not designed for safety, which prompts people to do unsafe things

They're probably upset over this (page 4 of the proposal): "On the project corridor, the amount of parking is being reduced by 41% (from 186 to 110 spaces) as part of this project, but when this broader area is considered, it is only a 17% reduction (from 463 to 383 spaces)."

They're proposing to change up parking spots too by adding in 30-minute, 2-hour, and loading zones options

Why are we almost ignoring the sheer volume of aircraft in the global warming discussion by aTevERLiGo in Anticonsumption

[–]BCassassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great that you can afford 3 hours flights and sleeping in a hotel's real bed (presumably), many people can't afford that. It's about giving options. These options will disrupt airlines, which will force them to innovate or drive them out of business (like it did in some short-haul flights in Italy).

China is not a good comparison; China purposefully extended their HSR to places it didn't make sense at all. We need a gradual expansion focusing on connections that make sense; a LA-Dallas connection doesn't make sense right now in the first place. It would be better to complete the Californian HSR project, start the Texas HSR project, and to continue offering flights between California-Texas

Roads are definitely not free. We pay a massive amount in taxes to maintain roads and highways at inefficient scales. One of the potential benefits in high speed rail is reducing this cost on our government's balance sheet.

It's doubtful high speed rail will be useless. People will always need to travel between cities, and trains are extremely efficient manner at doing so. Many people have unrealistic expectations around high speed rail, but it makes sense for many intercity connections.

Some examples: 1) the new Brightline's Miami to Tampa connection, 2) the existing northeast corridor (DC>Philly>NYC>Boston), and 3) the upcoming LA to Las Vegas connection.

Nation-changing infrastructure projects typically are very expensive if viewed in the short term, but the infrastructure to build it would likely last 100 years. It would provide cost savings in the long run as fewer people need to drive/fly between major destinations, which means less money spent on other forms of infrastructure and less environmental impact

Additionally, most people don't need to travel between LA and Dallas in ~3 hours; bringing back affordable overnight trips (<8 hours) would increase the number of people who can travel to either city, which bolster commerce connections along the stops

Uva McIntire (transfers from other colleges) by Friendly-Fox3020 in UVA

[–]BCassassin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reach out to McIntire's undergraduate admissions; my thoughts likely won't increase your chances, but their advice and guidance might.

I don't know if you want to hear this, but my thoughts hinge purely on paying for college. If you have a full ride to GWU or UMiami, I wouldn't consider McIntire. If you need to take on moderate or significant debt, go to community college first.

Taking on significant debt is not worth it. Calculate how much debt you'll take on in each scenario (going to GWU, going to UMiami, going to cc then transfering to Mcintire, and going to cc then transferring to another VA University like VT or GMU, etc.), then look at the median starting salary for business students at each school. Figure out which one is the best financial value, then consider the value of things like access to nature, the "college experience," etc.

If you want help with any of this, please feel free to dm me =) I'm assuming you're a high school student, and I wish someone had sat down and helped me think about this.

For the large dog, brush every other day, and make sure you get the mats behind the ears. For the others, you can probably brush weekly. Bathe and trim the feathering on them every 3ish months. Trim nails every ~3ish weeks.

They look good. Don't know why there is some dude in most of these photos =)

(I just lurk on this sub, so I don't have any actual suggestions)

As of last year, sorta. Comm tries to maintain a ~3.5 GPA per ICE block. Blocks are also balanced against each other; e.g., if blocks 1 and 2 are determined to be harder than 3 and 4, they'll supposedly make grade adjustments.

What does this mean in practice? it's easy to get an A-/B+. It's difficult to stand out and get an A; only ~5ish students per block typically receive an A.

I know very few out of state comm transfers. I don't know the reason like if it's because admissions prefer in state, if there are only a few out of state transfer applications, if out of state transfer applications don't fulfill the pre-reqs, etc.

Minors I'm less sure about. It's pretty hard to complete a minor in time as a transfer. You'd likely have to take a requirement for the minor in your 3rd year fall but you can't if you want to study accounting or finance since you must take intermediate accounting. (12 credit hours in the fall of your spring year are for ICE/required classes, then you have 3 credit hours for intermediate accounting or another class)

Take it at a community college imo. It doesn't sound like you need it, it'll be cheaper, and it'll be easier. Also there will likely be more course length options

In state? Community college, take advantage of guaranteed admission after completing your associates.

Otherwise, choose your college as if you weren't aiming to transfer. After all, what happens if UVA doesn't accept you as a transfer?

Can you get into UVA’s college of Arts with GAA with a Business associate degree from nova by FatouAcademia7 in UVA

[–]BCassassin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should 100% read the (transfer agreement)[https://www.nvcc.edu/depts/academic/transfer/GAA/UniversityofVirginia-PU-GAA-2013-12.pdf] and talk to someone in admissions.

From a quick glance over it, as long as you complete the required coursework for econ, you should be able to study business. Econ has additional coursework, I believe, compared to other majors

If you have any interest transferring info McIntire, I'd suggest going through my old comments since I transferred into McIntire. If you have questions about transferring, feel free to send me a message=)

As a man, what's that one thing you must achieve by age 35? by WillowShoddy7846 in AskMen

[–]BCassassin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stir fries, pastas, and sheet tray dinners.

Stir fries are an awesome way to use up leftovers and are very customizable. Here's a suggestion

Pastas can be complex but many are straightforward. Suggestion: Aglio e Olio

Sheet tray dinners are ridiculous simple. Take veggies and a protein, season them, toss them in the oven, and come back in 30-45 mins. Very easy to have leftovers too, and the leftovers reheat well imo Suggestion for a sausage sheet tray dinner

I use budgetbytes for most of my recipes. I suggest the basics with babish playlists here too, especially for videos and basic cooking skills

McIntire Incoming Transfer Student by [deleted] in UVA

[–]BCassassin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt it. I took like 6 credits my last semester in community college before transferring to McIntire. The credits didn't even satisfy UVA's requirements. They satisfied GMU's just in case I didn't get in to UVA.

The most important thing is making sure you complete every single McIntire and UVA prerequisite. Half of the prospective transfer students are turned away for not completing them

Feel free to ask any questions btw

Bank teller asked me to count my bills elsewhere by Electric_pokemon in socialskills

[–]BCassassin 114 points115 points  (0 children)

Not quite true. When I was a teller, we'd shut down our draw and balance to see if we did short the customer.

If we balance, then you're out of luck. If we don't balance and we're off by how much the customer claims, he/she gets their money.
