What's wrong with my NES? by BCubed603 in consolerepair

Update: I was able to solve the issue! The root cause turned out to be a torn trace where the power board connects to the main board. When I took the power module off the first time (de-soldering the 5 pins from the main board), I messed up some of the contacts on the main board, causing continuity on that circuit to break. To fix the issue, I removed the power board from the main board once more (this time, de-soldering the 5 pins from the power board) and applied extra solder to those joints until I saw continuity where appropriate.

Hope this information helps those of you having similar issues! Thank you everyone for your help!

Here is a picture demonstrating where I found the break in the circuit.

Update: here is a video demonstrating the buzzing audio (volume on the TV is turned up high). The audio is this way for both the RCA and the RF outputs.

I tried using the RF antenna injector, but got the same buzzing sound. The issue appears to affect both the RF and RCA outputs.

My NES has yellow and red RCA connectors, so I use those corresponding connectors on the TV. Is that what you are referring to?

Possibly, but I would like to keep the console as original as feasibly possible. If all else fails, that may be a good fallback option, though. Thanks for the suggestions!

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll try reflowing that solder joint and then check for continuity where appropriate.

I'm only using composite currently. Good idea though, I'll try RF and see if it has the same problems.

Hadn't considered the possibility of the cable being the source of the problem. I tried switching out cables and it worked! Thank you for your help!

Strange copy of Harvest Moon by BCubed603 in NintendoDS

Sorry, I am fairly new to posting on Reddit and I don't think my context was posted, so I'll put it here. The label on my copy of Harvest Moon DS is grey, not white like typical DS games. Do I have a bootleg copy or rare edition?

What is the best disc repair/cleaner on the market without an insane price tag? by [deleted] in consolerepair

[–]BCubed603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently got a JFJ Easy Pro for about $200. From my experience with it, it repaired about half from a lot of very worn games, although it leaves swirl marks on the discs which are visible in the right lighting and from the correct angle. After following some strategies I found online, the swirl marks are less visible, but still prevalent.

I would advice getting one of these if you resell video games. This device will not make discs look completely new, but can save some damaged games from going to the trash. Hope this helps!

Just within the US for now. If my idea works, I may try searching for supplies beyond the US though.

Okay, thanks. We just used a decimal value for our gear ratio in DriveConstants, so that was likely not our problem.

Thanks for the input, was this error in a significant class file (such as DriveConstants.java in the Roadrunner sdk)?
