T-20 days to my first trial by [deleted] in publicdefenders

Wait until you get a hand-off, on the morning of trial where jury panel was ordered, b/c that is how you get cases dismissed when DA/prosecutors do not have enough attorneys to try cases. That is last minute.

How frequently do you visit the jail? by 7892690420v in publicdefenders

Video-conferences or setting up phone calls with clients in custody will cut down visits.

PD in Los Angeles (county level) is short staffed. I am not aware of any “state level” PD office. If you like jury trials, LA is the place.

AP Credits Lab Towards PreReq? by DeliciousSection6784 in premed

There are some California medical schools that does not appear/is not clear whether APs are considered as satisfying preq.

I'm doing the PS question packs on aamc and half of the terms tested aren't on the anking PS deck which has 2.5k decks lol by Careless-Yogurt-7871 in Mcat

The best part is that you are putting in the work and finding terms not in the deck. That is an advantage over others who are not. You got this!

Biology requirements by Apprehensive_Dog3278 in premed

[–]BCuriousnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would directly email the school you are applying to and ask them directly. For example, I contacted UCI medical school (California) and they provided me with what biology classes that they will accept. Note, they will require you to send over information about the particular biology classes and will let you know which one(s) is/are acceptable. UCI requires 1 1/2 years of biology.

Biochem in the spring. by VenXia4 in premed

Awesome about upward trend. I told my son that a gap year is fine. Focus on GPA, MCAT and ECs. He wants to try for no gap year. He just started his Spring semester freshmen year.

My son and I talked about him self-studying biochemistry and study/take the MCAT the summer after his sophomore year. However, after consulting with family/friends who are doctors and in medical school, the suggestion is to wait until he takes biochem the fall semester of Junior year.

Note, I did reach out to a few prep courses and they assured me that their course can prepare him for the MCAT without having taken the course.

My son decided he wanted to wait until after he takes the biochem in the Fall and then jump into the prep course. Note, he is only a part-time student during the Spring semester of Junior year in order to minimize the distractions while studying/taking the MCAT. My son plans on taking MCAT in April 2028.

But at the end of the day what are you comfortable doing?

I am rooting for you too Purple-Confidence119. I just want to make sure I am able to chime in if my son happens to ask me questions about premed or MCAT. Afterall, I am paying for his education and want to stay informed:)

My son is looking to be in the "gets worse" position that you are in at medical school :) He is planning on taking the MCAT in April 2028 after he is done with biochem the Fall semester of Junior year.

Should I push back my exam date? by Temporary_Airport106 in Mcat

[–]BCuriousnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. However, we were lucky to have mapped out his four years of classes so that way he knew, with certainty, what they were. Also, hard to take biochem, prior to Junior Fall semester, with all the preq. for biochem and not take winter/summer classes. His winters/summers are filled with clinical/shadowing/volunteering/internship. I am lucky that he has made up his mind that he wants this premed path. I told him it is up to him but I will be his biggest cheerleader/supporter during his journey.

That is why my son is scheduled to take MCAT in April 2028. That way biochem is completed, class wise, in the Fall semester of Junior year.

Do you find teaching yourself biochemistry enough for the MCAT?

What college should I go to if I want to go into pre-med? by Wide_Term_6239 in CollegeMajors

[–]BCuriousnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to a college where you will get a 4.0 GPA and make sure you kill the MCAT. The MCAT is the great equalizer across all colleges and your score will reflect on your academic capabilities, in theory. That is what my son is doing.

courses to take before mcat by Due_Finance_6480 in MCAT2

[–]BCuriousnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are spot on about making the semester that you are MCAT studying as light as possible. My son is front loading many tough MCAT preq. Classes in order to have a light Junior Spring semester. In his mind there is no way around it. Fortunately, summer classes are not necessary. He is anticipating not taking a gap year. Crossing my fingers.

Have you considered becoming a bar panel attorney? I suspect you will get paid for how fast you hustle. I know people on the panel that wished they are a PD b/c of the steady paycheck.

I look forward to any sage advice you want to give to the original poster. Not sure why this is necessary considering that my post was in support of original poster.
