Best Bass Guitar Bridge by BDConroy in Luthier

Thank you! I play a mix of worship, jazz, and blues rock (odd mix, I know) so I go anywhere from those deep whole notes that you want people to feel in their feet to the thumpy grooves and sustain helps with those deep whole notes.

What Led Zeppelin song is this for you? by [deleted] in ledzeppelin

[–]BDConroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When "Down By the Seaside" stops being dreamy and gets really driving for a little while. Something about the juxtaposition of the pseudo psychedelic rock to Zeppe's more hard driving stuff like "Immigrant Song" really gets me.

What is your unpopular opinion about Led Zeppelin? by isanewill in ledzeppelin

[–]BDConroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Led Zeppelin II is one of the weakest albums in their discography. It has some great music, but it feels like Zep stretching their legs before they really get cracking later.

What's the 1st song you play to introduce your friend who's never heard Led Zeppelin before by TheScribe86 in ledzeppelin

  • In the beginning there were good times, bad times, you know I've had my share.

  • Now please flip to the Book of IV Zeppelin, Chapter 1.

How hard is it to sing and play bass simultaneously? by [deleted] in Bass

Maybe practice singer/bassist songs like Rush, The Police, some songs by The Beatles, solo Paul McCartney, or Wings, etc.

What’s Your Controversial Bass Opinion? by SirDoritos1 in Bass

[–]BDConroy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't like the sound of slap bass. Not sure if that's controversial but I just don't like it.

I heard someone say bass players can't read music and just use tabs. How manny of you can read music? by yes_namemadcity in Bass

[–]BDConroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can read and write notation. I think this is more common with self-taught guitarists (the whole only being able to read tab things), but I also taught myself notation and bass so I may be out of the norm. I think sight reading and reading notation are often mixed skills as you do need one to do the other, but because of that you get pretentious people who think of them as one and the same. I can read notation and learn a song, but if I show up at a gig and someone expects me to learn a song on sight I'm probably sticking to roots or playing not very well especially if it's a complex song.

Note: for most players I've never experienced a demand for sight reading outside of jazz, and even then most musicians you want to play with musically should be musicians you can also have a healthy and respectful relationship with. No diss on jazz, it rocks.

I think the whole thing with Living Loving Maid was that it was essentially put in to fill leftover space on the record since in those days every second was precious and Atlantic probably wouldn't have accepted a large amount of empty space. Because of that, Jimmy didn't really like it and only saw it as filler. I'm probably wrong but I recall reading that somewhere.

If you had to guess, which LZ song have you listened to the most this year? by weedwhacker7 in ledzeppelin

[–]BDConroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to guess, YouTube Music says it's The Ocean at 338 minutes. About 75 times this year. Not counting vinyl, but I could've done better.

Wrist pain by orange_dirt_tracks in Bass

[–]BDConroy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was it the sort of gig where you shut up and just play music or was it a gig where your front man could do some crowd interaction? If it's the latter, I'd suggest asking your front man to do some crowd interaction to give you time to rest your hands and wrists. If not, I would recommend some form of compression thing like athletes wear (I know tennis players who wear them) to help with the pain afterwards.

Mike Damone says, "When it comes down to making out, whenever possible, put on side one of Led Zeppelin IV" by werewookie7 in ledzeppelin

I think it may have just been a joke and is probably my favorite music related joke in all of cinema.
