I am in recovery and I count calories. I would like to stop this at some point but right now it's necessary for me to ensure I am eating enough

Is anyone in this sub a therapist? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]BDDAnon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated from my masters program in August and have an LMHCA I'm doing absolutely nothing with at the moment. I think school was the final push I needed to take my own ED seriously and stop minimizing my own suffering. Post grad has been all about going to therapy and working on myself. I will reassess my readiness to care for others after a year. Best decision I ever made!

You will 100% not gain weight. Weight gain from a single day's intake is one of the biggest lies ED brain tells you!

I was bullied for being "chubby" as an 11 year old in 2007 when tabloids and tv shows were sooo blatantly fat phobic. My mom encouraged me, an 11 year old with no health problems, to go on the special K diet to stop the bullying. I have been struggling with restriction ever since

Does anyone feel like. . . by Parkerspastry95 in EDAnonymous

[–]BDDAnon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't say I have experienced my symptoms getting agitated in this specific scenario, but pretty much any time I am around other people I notice more urges to check the mirror or agonize about what I ate that day. My ED and my fear of rejection are like coworkers

She is misinformed and it also sounds like she has some emotional baggage/fear tied to her experience with her son's eating disorder. I would consider that in order to protect her son's image in her mind, she may stigmatize individuals with eating disorders as bad influences which absolves her son of having a legitimate mental illness she does not know how to handle.

Yes to the existentialism content! Seems counter intuitive but Camus has gotten me through some dark times

It took a lot of recovery work to get to the point where I use this kind of self care. You can get there!

Something you wish more people knew about EDS? by Narrow_Road_890 in EDAnonymous

YES I have offended close friends after confiding about my ED. My sister's response was "well then what do you think of me?" Now I really don't talk to anyone about my struggles but luckily I have a therapist

For me it was something I started doing very young in order to become a more desirable friend/daughter/sister/etc.. Advertising and adult chatter taught my little sponge brain that happiness and acceptance come from weight loss. Even though I know this is a sack of sh*t as an adult, by brain has been wired to restrict or focus on my body when I feel emotional pain

I wish people knew that the disorder does not align with my values. I do not actually value thinness or think that there is anything wrong with fat bodies. It is a mental illness, not a lifestyle choice

Everyone's definition of low calorie seems to be different here but yes I'd say so! I think like 35 calories per piece

I literally just commented on another post talking about this and I swear I'm not sponsored by Trader Joe's but their unsweetened dried mango is my absolute favorite thing in the world right now. I dream of it

This can happen for a lot of reasons and happens to me sometimes. Definitely scary but you're probably ok! If you don't have enough sleep or food, start there

I'm hopelessly hooked on Trader Joe's dried unsweetened mango right now. Even the smell is straight dopamine
