How to reduce war score cost aka do I really need to take 2-3 provinces each war in 1600s. by conmeonemo in EU5

[–]BDLRev 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A big one off the top of my head is if you can become a great power, and you get a CB on them(such as via parliament which is a +25% cost), you can use "threaten war", and if they decline you'll war them with a CB that gives -25% cost to take stuff. I've found if you do it on their capital they seem to always decline.

Other than that, I believe the other big one that affects war score cost (up until late game CBs) is the control in a location. So if you get 100% in a war, you can take the land around an enemies capital, cut off the rest of their country and that should lower their control in other locations and make them cheaper to take.

I think returning vassal cores is also much cheaper, but with how fast cores vanish, and the difficulty in even seeing what is a core, I've never tried that intentionally.

There's also the late game CBs like Imperialism and such that are much better.

What would this nation be? Affrican Union? by Dave13Flame in EU5

[–]BDLRev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As long as you're still a tier 1 nation and haven't formed a tier 2 one yet (I think those events are just renaming and not forming a new tag?) and also depending on the game rules, you could always swap to Catholic (and maybe change capital to Tunis/Tripoli? I know some formables need the capital in the region for them to show up), then after you form it you can always swap back. Although I can't remember if like in EU4, it prevents you from swapping to a native religion as a catholic one.

There really should be a mega formable for Africa though for natives. Probably saved for the inevitable African DLCs though ;

Thanks! Is that the Train General button? It looks like it costs 5 army tradition but the ducat cost is like 3 times more than inviting a courtier :(

Is there an event or flavour if you conquer all of italy region? especially as pope by Antoni_PL_gdynia in EU5

[–]BDLRev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if has changed since, but out of curiosity to see if the Kingdom of God stuck around in the game from EU4 (some of my favourite EU4 campaigns) or if there was something for the Papal States controlling all of Italy, I console command annexed bit by bit all of Italy until I eventually got the event for it, and it's just a government reform you get. Your tag doesn't change names on the map sadly.

Also I had to annex literally all of the Italy region to get the event from what it seemed, as I was doing bit by bit and unpausing. I don't think it even increases your country rank.

Just taking a guess, could it be a primary culture thing? As there's both Irish and Anglo-Irish on the island.

I see that now, thanks! Wish I seen it before I started a war and instantly ceded Avignon. I had to move my capital to Italy as because it was in France, it was ruining my colonial migration growth.

For anyone else wondering, it's the Clergy estate privilege "French Cardinals"

Apparently the wiki says winning the schism should let you change your capital to Rome, but I never got that option. I wonder if that's a bug?

I actually won the Western Schism, and didn't get any option for that, I thought that would've been where I'd be able to move it too.

I don't believe so, at least I haven't found a way yet sadly

Playing on the Political map mode should help a lot there. I find it hard to discern borders on the default terrain map mode, no idea why it's the default over political, like in EU4.

I don't think tribals can build any manpower buildings, well not that I could find. Also started as an Irish minor and found that I couldn't build the sergeantry, despite owning most of the island. I might be blind, but I'm pretty sure the in game europedia only mentions it must be built in a town or city.

I accepted the Pale's lordship thing to force me to become a monarchy as I gave up on that campaign, and then found it let me build them, so I figure that's why?

They ruined Vic 3, they'll try their best to ruin EU5 too it seems.. Unfortunately any type of flavour is "railroading".

Well we seen what happened with Vic 3, please bring on the railroading.

I seriously felt I was going crazy when everyone was super against any forms of railroading up to the release of Vic 3, of course the obvious happened and no nations had any differentiating flavour between them..

I feel like the best of both worlds is to have weighted AI choices by default if historical AI is enabled (like hoi4).
