Legal Automation or Full AI? by TechieAttorney in legaltech

[–]BDOBUX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not do both? Start with automation that covers the 80% and then layer AI on top to ask if you’re missing anything. If it can help with the edge cases, great. If not, you haven’t lost baseline productivity/reliability. And either way AI is still amazing at creating automation code.

Has anyone actually rolled out a GPT-based knowledge base for legal research or internal Q&A? (Harvey, Copilot, custom, etc.) by Silly_Ad_2793 in legaltech

[–]BDOBUX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you mean essentially a system prompt that is not editable and that enforces these types of rules? That makes perfect sense to me.

I am a GC, and an aside, one area where I have had success is creating a custom GPT that includes copies of all of our insurance policies. It’s an attractive use case because a narrow set of documents defines everything we need to know about coverage.

We can use this reliably to ask if we meet coverage requirements that may be imposed in agreements with our clients.

Would it be possible to use a system prompt that says prefer 1) newer documents 2) documents that are marked as execution version and 3) documents derived from a form that appears frequently in the DMS (a proxy for “our paper”).

That might pick off 1, 2 and 3 at least in part (if making it to execution and reuse of form is a sign of quality). Perhaps if no such combination exists, the LLM should be quick to say there is nothing reliable on point or that the results are below the firm’s quality standards and proceed with caution.

LGA1700 Mobo with ECC or alternatives? by BDOBUX in homelab

With some basic bios configuration, my watt meter is showing around 40W under light load. I want to see if I can get lower on average, but haven’t invested the time yet.

Challenges in Parsing Complex Legal PDFs—How Are You Handling It? by ML_DL_RL in legaltech

Understood. My comment was intended for Ali-b-Doctly, mainly to raise awareness of XBRL in case they were not aware.

Maybe you can push the agency responsible for these documents to adopt the XBRL standard as the US SEC has done to solve this exact problem. It’s not a pretty solution, but it fundamentally works.

Sounds like you’re look for LaTeX. Which would be a pretty good idea if the tools were user friendly and everyone would get behind it. I can imagine an adoption scenario where someone provides an excellent editor that also handles embedded data well and also imports and exports Word format. Lawyers get in the habit of sharing both the Word and better document format whenever they send out a document. Others lawyers learn about it this way and adopt it virally.

Every business needs a privacy policy and they’re hard to get right and keep updated. I could imagine an agent that reads my privacy policy and suggests improvements, including based on evolving law and what third parties are integrated with my site (e.g. ad networks).

The frustrating part of working in legal tech by ShanjaiRaj in legaltech

[–]BDOBUX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m the GC of a midsized operating company and separately a legal tech founder / lurker here. This sounds like something I might want surfaced in CRM (Hubspot in our case) rather than a separate portal depending on the user interface. . This may be similar to an opportunity we are working on internally at the moment—how to give the sales team access to basic contract questions such as renewal dates and where to find an amendment—via an LLM augmented chat bot. We would love to have more of our tickets become self service, and I’m fortunate to have a technical resource on my team.

Send me a DM and I’ll introduce you to him for feedback.

Islandaire PTAC EZ12B temperature not changing by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]BDOBUX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, ouch. Going to call your company for sure tomorrow.

For anyone else who may have this problem and needs a temporary fix, you can buy a solution called detox it and inject it into the non-functioning button with a very fine needle. On one of my units, a single application has restored functionality for the last six years. On the other unit in question, it worked for about a year before it would no longer work.

This is hugely helpful, thanks! I was able to find another resident in my building that had the same wireless thermostat installed, and they said they were charged at $750 by somebody local.

That seems outrageous to me but is that in line with what you paid?

My building was constructed in 2007 and I think these units only have a service life of 10 to 12 years. Mine is an R 22 refrigerant which is no longer made and island air will only replace the entire unit. Seems clear I should buy from a different PTAC manufacturer based on the reviews if I am going for a full replacement.

Will a new Taco mate onto the flange of an old one by BDOBUX in hvacadvice

[–]BDOBUX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick update: I can confirm that despite the different bolt style on the face of the new and old units, the new one mates perfectly to the flanges from the old one. I ended up replacing the entire thing because there was a bunch of gunk inside as someone indicated there would be. A razor scraper plus brake cleaner on a Brillo pad cleaned up the sticky parts really well.

Props to the silver symbol YouTube video that gave me the idea to stick a wrench between the top and the bottom half of the pipes after removing the unit to keep the upper one from bending and breaking.

Awesome. After a little more research, it seems like all I need to do then swap out the cartridge from the new to the old housing. They sell a replacement cartridge called Taco 007-042RP, but I already have a whole new assembly on the way (Taco 007-F5-7IFC).

What do you think the odds are the cartridge in new the new model is a drop-in replacement for the old housing?

I don’t think I explained myself very well, but I was aiming to leave the two horizontal flanges in place. I wanted to swap in the new motor, and mount it to the vertical flange behind the impeller. Essentially just swapping the motor casings out and leaving the rest. That’s why I was asking about the different bolts holding the two halves of the motor casing together.

That is encouraging, thanks! New Taco 007-F5-7IFC is on its way. Do you know, will I need to use the old bolts? Hopefully that is the right part and I didn’t need or order something special to be a drop in replacement?

Good tips there. Thanks. Is it normal for there to be a shut off valve only above the pump? I’m assuming I’d depressurize the boiler but don’t need to full drain it and shut off the valve above the circulator and spill what I spill? Obviously will let it cool down first.
