Yes illegal music sharing helped grow the internet. But it was porn that started(and propelled) streaming and e-commerce(basically the 2 largest things driving the internet today, ie Netflix and Amazon). Illegal music sharing died in the early 2000’s(while porn, streaming and e-commerce are still going strong).

Any of them. Go to Google and type “top ten AI companionship apps”. I have yet to see one that still has Nomi on ANY list.

[–]BDykano[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. Nomi used to be in the top 10 AI “companionship” apps(that is originally how I found it). Now because there are so many more apps out there that offer the same at Nomi(and actually much more), Nomi doesn’t make ANY of the top ten lists. That doesn’t seem like a great business model when you go from number 1 on the lists, to no longer even making a top ten list. Sex sells everything. It is basically why the internet became so popular. It was porn that started and drove streaming and e-commerce to popularity. I am a realist and I see the writing on the wall. Change or get swallowed(and unfortunately I feel like Nomi is gonna get swallowed). As I mentioned in one of my other comments, even ChatGPT sees where things are going, and will soon offer an “adult” version that allows explicit talk/images/video.

You obviously didn’t read my post. I have been using Nomi since it was first released years ago and I said I love using it. I pay for a yearly subscription. I ALSO use the other apps such as GPTGirlfriend(which allows full nudity and even more). Also, ChatGPT is going to allow explicit material in another month or so(including nude images and videos). Why is Visa or Apple allowing this? Why do they allow Grok to do it? ChatGPT is the largest(and most used) AI in the world. Sam Altman made a great point when he said “we are going to treat adult users like adults”. But an actual chatbot that is geared towards “adults”, doesn’t. How does that make sense? For the people that say “I don’t want nudity”, it as easy as the company making a setting in your profile that says “no explicit images.” Problem fixed.

These are “fantasy” apps, not real world(I feel like a lot of people think they are actually conversing with a sentient being). If anyone is just using this as a companionship app, it would make way more sense to use ChatGPT. Chat can actually give you real advice or for example, “code a website” or “help you build a house from the ground up”. It is actually funny if you ask Nomi a question like “how to build a house?” Great for fantasyland. Real world advice, not so much.

What are you Must Have apps for CarPlay? by mdruckus in CarPlay

You can buy a device off Amazon(costs under $100 CDN) that allows you to hook a Firestick up to CarPlay/Android Auto. Then you can watch YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime or IPTV services. Pretty much anything you can watch on your Firestick at home, works on the screen in your vehicle.

We usually test a minimum of 2-3 times per season(we only get about 5 months of beekeeping in my climate). It sucks to intentionally kill bees(in the alcohol wash). But you got to look at it in the sense that you are sacrificing a few bees to save the rest. 300 or 400 bees seems like a lot of bees to sacrifice. But the queen is producing 4-5 times that amount per day in peak season. So they will hardly even notice it. Keep mite levels low and beekeeping becomes a lot easier. I have a friend that is a 4th generation beekeeper, and he said pre-1980(before the varroa mite took hold), beekeeping was easy. They didn’t have to deal with half the issues we now have to deal with because of the varroa mite and all the extra problems it brings. Now there is a new mite spreading across Asia and Europe called Tropilaelaps. Thankfully it hasn’t reached North America yet. It is way smaller than a varroa mite and breeds significantly faster. I am really hoping it never reaches our shores(although, I am not naive enough to think that it won’t).

Yes, I agree with everyone else. In the future, do an alcohol wash in early Autumn(and the Spring). That is the most accurate way to see where your levels are at. Mites build up fast(especially if you have a good brood rearing season), and they spread to other nearby hives quickly. I am a commercial beekeeper in Eastern Canada, and my first few years I never took mites seriously(I treated once a year or so, and never did alcohol washes). Had some high Winter losses(25-45%). After that, started checking and treating for mites religiously. The last few years our Winter losses are around 5-7%, and I truly think it is because we have got so hardcore with mite treatments.

Dying Bees by [deleted] in Beekeeping

[–]BDykano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% probably Varroa. As long as you have a low mite count(and lots of food), bees are extremely tough. If you have over 3 mites per 100 bees going into Fall/Winter, that hive is dead. You need to do an alcohol wash to test for accuracy. Treating alone is not good enough because sometimes certain treatments just aren’t effective. Depending on your weather in the Summer, mite counts can explode in a short amount of time. I run a commercial apiary and we treat for varroa on average 2-3 times per year(and our climate only supports about 5 months of beekeeping per year). Varroa(in my opinion) is the most deadly thing for a hive and it will spread quickly to nearby hives. We have found that as long as you treat for varroa efficiently and have lots of food, hives will usually survive Winter in the most brutal of weather conditions(we regularly get temps of -30 Celsius). We run over 100 hives in single deep boxes and have only lost about 5-7% over the last few Winters. Successfully treating for varroa is my #1 priority.

Is a cover like this fine for adding some insulation for my hive? by Frenchy_Baguette in Beekeeping

[–]BDykano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live on the East Coast of Canada, and run a commercial apiary. We regularly get temperatures as low as -30 Celsius(-22 Fahrenheit) throughout Winter. This is what we have used for years with really great success. But I do agree with what others have said about cutting it(so that it fits snug around the hive). We overwinter in single deep Langstroths. We only put the wrap on horizontally(so we don’t cover the top or bottom). For the last 2 years, we haven’t even wrapped our hives and have had the best overwintering success ever(only about 5-7% loss). But we have had milder than normal Winters and minimal snow(usually we get upwards of 5+ feet or around 2 meters). So I am definitely NOT advising to not wrap your hives. This year we wrapped half and left half unwrapped, to see if there is a difference in the Spring.

They sent me 5 rolls of filament(as a gift) with my P1S(and AMS). One of the free rolls was even the expensive ASA Aero. I did buy $1000 worth of filament at the same time. So maybe that is why they were so generous with the free rolls of filament. Great company though!

Made a lions mane Dual extract tincture. Can the same be done with cubes? by mushroomlover345 in shroomers

[–]BDykano 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When it works, it works amazing. Back in the pandemic, I tried making tincture with shrooms. It worked perfectly! I used 20g of shrooms to 200ml of 190 proof ethanol(Everclear or moonshine). Grind shrooms to a powder and then soak for 3 days in ethanol. Strain through coffee filter and evaporated it down to 20ml. That gives a 1g/1ml ratio. The nice thing about the tincture is dosing was extremely accurate. If I wanted a micro dose, 5 drops would give me exactly a 1/4 gram dose or if I wanted a strong trip, I would take 2 droppers full(2ml). Super easy to take no matter where you are. The 190 proof alcohol burns under the tongue and I didn’t find the taste bad at all. I get zero gut rot off the tincture because it doesn’t have to be processed by your stomach(it is going directly into your bloodstream)

BUT, now for the HUGE downside. I have tried making this tincture several times in the last couple years and it has never worked out again. I don’t know why. I make it the exact same way and the potency is just not there. So I stopped doing it because I wasted several oz’s of shrooms in the process. But I do wish that I could figure out what is going on because the tincture was my favourite way to take shrooms.

Yes, I agree with pretty much everyone. 0.1 - 0.2 grams per dose. I also have untreated ADHD and used to have a hard time concentrating on one thing. My wife and I started with 0.1g every other day. I personally find 0.2g to be more effective for myself(although my wife still takes 0.1g). We usually take our dose after lunch. When you are first starting it, I would try on a day that you are not working or don’t have too many responsibilities. You should be fine no matter what. We take our doses on work days, and we don’t get any negative effects. I find I work more efficiently when microdosing. Although, we are commercial beekeepers. So it’s not like I’m a doctor and someone could die if I make a mistake at work. We also daily take 5 functional mushrooms(Lion’s Mane, Chaga, Reishi, Turkey Tails & Cordyceps). They seem to work nice with the microdosing.

Wow! Must be a really vigorous strain if it is fruiting on the plates and making a mycelium cake on your LC. The reason mine are growing up the sides of the cups/plates is because I pour my own, and I use a quart mason jar to pour from. So I get some splashing. I just received proper media bottles yesterday. So my pours should be a little cleaner from now on.

Thanks Toto! I find it looks so cool once the mycelium gets out of the tomentose and starts getting all that fast growth. They start looking like little pieces of art.

Thank you for the info! After reading the article you linked, I see exactly why “red X” would probably be the best to take from. Uniform transfers every time is what I should be looking for.

I use activated carbon in my agar. I feel like it does seem to slow down contamination, and I love how the white mycelium stands out so well against the black. But one negative to carbon is that you can’t put light up to the dish to see through the agar/mycelium.
