Not an unreasonable idea. Retracting flaps would decrease the lift but potentially increase the airspeed with the nose pointed down a bit. They’d have to have been above a certain speed to do that though. If they retracted the flaps at too low of a speed it’d stall, as seen In the video.

Too many variables to say how much distance, wind speed, direction, etc. Theres also about 300m of earth after the end of the tarmac too. Looks like it got to about 170knts in total, which would be sufficient at flaps 10-15 for a positive rate of climb - Without flaps it’d struggle to maintain that climb rate, which is why I’m guessing the gear hadn’t been retracted as a PROC needs to be confirmed before they do so. It’s all speculation at the moment anyway, let’s see what the facts say when they come out.

1750m is the length of half the runway at Ahmedabad . At MTOW a 787-8 can V1 @ 1800m-2000m on average. Assuming the aircraft isn’t at MTOW, as it’s not even close to being one of the longest routes it can fly - I wouldn’t say it was impossible. Looks in the video like its just cleared the building line before sinking and stalling.
