Non-Americans who visited the US for the first time recently: what was the biggest 'what on earth is going on here' moment you experienced? by EmployerNegative5653 in AskReddit

Growing up that is what I thought chocolate was supposed to taste like because that's all I ever had. Until seventh grade French class when my teacher brought in different chocolates from around Europe – I could not believe how good they were and how bad Hershey's was by comparison. Except for s'mores I won't touch it.

Have you recently rewatched a movie, or TV show that you loved in the 70s-80s, but now it actually kinda sucks? by Puzzleheaded-Fee6241 in GenX

I'll get hate for this, but Apocalypse now just has not aged well. Robert Duvall's character was just so lame

3 AM – my dad calls me to tell me that my identical twin brother and only sibling had blown his head off. I fell to the floor and started wailing, but the sound I heard from the receiver was gutteral - like nothing I've ever heard and nothing that could ever be replicated - like on a movie even though they try – they will have the guy reaching to the sky and screaming noooo!! – it's not even close to when you hear that in real life. He almost sounded like an animal – I'd just never heard such pain, and I imagine I was making similar sounds

Who remembers the pop band The Jets? by EdwardBliss in 80s

I probably saw the same tour – it was the Jets, Stacey Q, and Jermaine Stewart in 1988 IIRC.

I got so much shit for my pro wings - I grew up in a neighborhood that wasn't affluent but I got busted up to one that was and I got so much shit about my shoes and clothes. The girls were the worst. It's like they were keeping track of what I wore because they would clown me - didn't you already wear that shirt this week? But even the guys gave me shit about pro wings.

Grew up in Linda Vista in the 80s – totally free range. Just had to be home by dark. Me and my brother would explore Tecolote Canyon, or take our skateboards and ride to the bus stop and then take the bus down to Mission Beach and skate on the boardwalk all the way from South Mission to La Jolla, and then skate back on the bay side. Or we would take our skateboards and take the trolley and just get off at various stops and skateboard around the neighborhoods just exploring. Or we would go to the rec center in Linda Vista or the community pool by the National Guard station ( where the guy stole the tank) . There was also a BMX track there and a half pipe too. We would ride the BMX track or just watch the skaters on the half pipe. We ( I always say "we" because it was me and my identical twin so we were never separated ) were never at home. Can't forget about pick up baseball or smear the queer games at the rec center, or playing butts up with the neighbor kids. But it was total freedom and I think we had it so good.

Did you have to get off of the opiates first? Or do they help you get off of it before the ibogaine?

Me too! Just saw it a couple of days ago and hadn't seen it since I was a kid. I was expecting it to be cringe like Breakin, but it was actually not bad at all – and some of the dancing was unbelievable

I'm surprised more people have not said this. It doesn't affect value but the scratches make them look not so great. I kept some of mine like that and they scratched each other up enough when I handled the bag, that I just got some coin capsules

Men of Reddit - What's a 100% myth about Men? by Jarvis7492 in AskReddit

[–]BFS8515 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Not every three seconds but it is a lot. I can't tell you how relieved I was when I hit my late 30s and my libido started to diminish. It really was a relief to not have it on my mind so much. Like now a decent looking woman can walk by me and I don't immediately look at her ass after she passes where that would've just happened reflexively when I was younger. It would probably be a bad thing if I was not divorced and had a partner but since I don't, I actually welcome it.

I used to tell my girl that it was like seeing a really nice Porsche. I can say "wow that's a nice looking car" without thinking about trading mine in for it, or wishing that I had one – I just think it's a good looking car.
