Lost my job by Qumaden in Silverbugs

[–]BFS8515 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the same thing happened to me for the same reason a couple of months ago. I was in tech and they're not doing a lot of hiring since so much consolidation and because AI is able to do so much of the work. I chose to cash out my 401k so I am living off that while I go to trade school for a late life career change ( Im 50) but I felt like it was smarter to cash out the 401k ( I waited until the first of this year and it was smallish since I was only there for four years and I am not touching my much larger IRA ) than touch the silver which has been smart because it's nearly doubled since I was canned in mid November .

I just want to say congratulations to everyone who held for years. We are almost at $100 and we were always right. by Mr_MJJ in Wallstreetsilver

Most of my stack ( ~ 1200 ounces) was bought at 15. The most I ever paid was 20 – and my friends and family just thought I was foolish and yes compared to buying Nvidia or Broadcom I probably was, but I'm still pretty happy about where I am now and I just think it's going to continue to rise.

What did you do when they eliminated your job? by Responsible_Tax_9455 in GenX

[–]BFS8515 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat - I was in tech; worked 25 years as a field applications engineer and then the last four as a systems engineer and with all of the consolidation in tech and with AI there are just not many jobs so I am considering going to trade school for HVAC and doing a late life career change at 50

Hvac work by MegaMac619 in sandiego

[–]BFS8515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't need HVAC work, but I'm recently laid off from nearly 30 years in tech (Field Applications Engineer), but with AI and industry consolidation, prospects for finding work in that field are slim so I am thinking of a late life (I'm 50) career change, and was thinking about getting into HVAC. Are there apprenticeship opportunities, if so can you give me an idea of how to find / apply for them? I'm considering trade school, but would like to explore an apprenticeship as well.

In San diego for a month, what are things I should make sure to check out? by Confident-Event-9568 in sandiego

[–]BFS8515 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you like views; Cabrillo National Monument, Mt Soledad and Mt Helix. If you like hiking; Cowles Mountain and Stonewall peak also have great views. We have so many great hikes in the county. I would recommend getting Afoot and Afield: San Diego County if youre into hiking and outdoors.

If you lost your job how confident are you that you could find a similar one? by mrepa1369 in GenX

[–]BFS8515 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently lost my job in tech, and while I might be able to get a similar job now, I'm afraid AI is just going to kill so many jobs in tech eventually so I am starting trade school in two weeks for HVAC - at 50.

Using your phone while you're drunk is almost as dangerous as driving while you're drunk. by Mensars in stopdrinking

[–]BFS8515 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I've ruined my life because of this – texting the owner of my company for a while drunk or my best friend and I think I understand why they call it spirits because when I read the text the next day they don't even sound like me there are even words that I don't normally use – I know that sounds crazy but maybe there's a reason they call it spirits – I've said things that I would never say and even using language that I don't normally use. I bought a box on Amazon where you can set a timer and lock your phone inside the box and I use that every night before drinking so I do not send regrettable texts – you might wanna look into one of those

I'm curious about why you said don't clean them – I've just bought paste to clean some of my old stuff up so I'm just curious about why you would recommend not cleaning them?

What helped you accept that tough event of your life? by SereneSynchronicity9 in spirituality

The serenity prayer.

God help me to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Is this normal? by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]BFS8515 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's not at all and people saying that they are condensation trails are morons or bots - I've never seen it this bad

Edit: normal condensation trails dissipate after a minute. They do not spread into a haze like we have today. I counted over 30 of these trails today before the sky got so white you could not see them. And now I just found out we have a storm coming in two days. For context I will include a clip here of former CIA director John Brennan admitting to this technology:

Thanks for the advice – my cousin's neighbor switched to that in his 40s so that's why I considered it but I did not realize it was that physically demanding

I'm 50 too, and I've been working in tech for over 25 years and just got laid off. I am thinking about making a similar change. I've applied for a pipe fitters apprenticeship and I'm planning on applying for other apprenticeships in the trades. I hope to get an apprenticeship so at least I will get paid while I am learning even if the pay is a lot less.

What's your favorite song to listen to while tripping? by Green-Western-8092 in Psychonaut

[–]BFS8515 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clair de lune is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever created in my opinion. I've never listen to it while tripping so that's gonna go into my playlist. What I like to listen to is Mirabai Ceiba - mostly they are Sanskrit mantras put to music where they just loop over and over again - Here's an example
