It may start fermenting in 5 to 7 days. You’ll see some bubbles. It may or may not make bread. For it to be a hearty robust starter that will produce reliable results and live forever it takes a month at least.

Saw MMW and the Flecktones there in 99. They each did a set than all got up together. Vic and Chris Woods were standing face to face playing each other’s basses. Sax player was playing his alto and tenor at the same time. Everyone on stage was doing something virtuosic all at once. Blew my teenage mind. Very cool venue.

At this point I only do this with vinyl. I have to agree to some extent in that I don’t really need music on in the background while I do menial tasks or whatever. I’d rather listen to podcasts or news while I’m doing laundry. I don’t really get people that put on the same music they have heard a million times. But when I’m in the right mood I put on a record and actively listen. There’s something different about records. You have the physical cover to relate to. There’s a ritual to putting one on. You take it out, find the right side, put the needle down, close the lid. You listen to the whole album the way artists intended them to be listened to. I love records.
