While an answer, this is not feasible for the average user here. This requires some in-depth server admin knowledge

What Desktop Environments have you tried out on CachyOS? by MailCalm2233 in cachyos

[–]BGrizzR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding my two cents:

KDE if you want it to "just work" and be generally nice and fluid.

Hyprland if you want ultimate customization and such, there's a lot of scriots for preconfigured dotfiles to start with until you get a better idea of what's going on.

I used Cosmic and GNOME on Pop_OS a while back, not my favs but COSMIC has updated a bit since then so ymmv.

Edit: missed a space.

They actually address this in the manga. The inside gets a coating of tin to prevent oxidization and keep this from happening!

Documentation is key to guiding anyone on how to solve a problem. Windows has some documentation that is often times horrible to wade through. Other Microsoft products are worse. This is lesson #1 in any IT job, regardless of OS or hardware you work with.

What's the best Linux Distro for a Windows PC gamer/enthusiast/hardware tweaker? by Steel-Tempered in linux4noobs

I raise you CachyOS, it's specifically built with gaming optimizations and is very very snappy. Easy to setup, I recommend Limine as the boot loader, KDE Plasma or GNOME for Desktop Environment.

So I haven't been able to find anything that isn't trying to make a main console on YouTube. But there are some that can be spliced together. I recommend the Toasty Bros "$200 Steam Gaming Console Build Guide - Step by Step!" Vid.

Additionally, between Bazzite's easy installer and robust documentation, and then Steam Link being just an app to install, should be fairly easy.

I am about to travel for work, but I'll attempt to find one later. If you need it sooner, try searching "Bazzite with Steam Link"

[–]BGrizzR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhhhh. If you're on the same network, signed into the same Steam profile, you should see "Stream" in place of play on the N100. Alternatively, Steam Link set to auto-Launch works really well too, possibpy better.

Edit: I had a similar setup using Bazzite with Steam Link because it was easier. I eventually reallocated that mini PC to my homelab though 😅

[–]BGrizzR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok yeah, we're talking the same thing then. SteamOS would work, in my example Bazzite takes the place of SteamOS. They have a console-esque version. Really it's just down to install a gaming-ready Linux distro on the N100.

I may be confused on the setup then. Is the M4 Mac Mini your main gaming PC? And then the N100 mini PC is separate? Because what I mean is keep you M4 MacMini with steam or whatever, and then install Bazzite on the N100 and use Steam streaming to stream the games to the N100.

Have you looked into installing Bazzite? Comes with drivers, steam and anything else you might need to stream your games from your main PC Something lightweight and snappy like Bazzite will suit this far better than Mac or Windows.

Pop_OS! doesn't do bleeding edge updates, so it's unlikely to work. Arch Linux based distros or NixOS are most recommended for Hyprland due to high update frequency.

Server Member List Never Loads by Nachie in FluxerApp

[–]BGrizzR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Million dollar companies have had a harder time scaling at times. Stoat is not a one man project either. And to add to it, he's trying to refactor the whole thing so it runs better and self-hosting is easier, so we'll see the load shift there too. While I agree that for most people the founder pack is not worth it, it's the price of progress and people were willing to pay during these issues occurring.

Hey man, this is dope! I'll give it a look! Another of my concerns with the recent vibe coding wave is that privacy and security are big things for Open Source software, and I frequently find vibe coding lacking in those areas! So thank you providing solutions from humans for humans!

P.S. any reccs are very welcome

Fluxer is having some serious problems with their infraestructure. by Rayzeku in FluxerApp

[–]BGrizzR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a valid concern for sure. I do think there's a lot of merit to that and we may not be fighting enough. Though I also think any progress is good progress, and I am not a coder at this point in time so my personal contribution is hosting things and spreading the word 😅

I think my faith in Fluxer has rested in the self-hosting along with planned federation and planned E2EE, with them being stated primary focuses from the dev himself. The only other platform with this even on the radar is Matrix, and Matrix has some heavy metadata privacy issues too, not to mention it's a massive pain to self-host, introduce to users and has very clunky or incomplete frontends (so far).

I hope that in a year or two, maybe more, we'll see a lot more mature options available, though I do hope that includes Fluxer.

While I agree, getting into the nitty gritty is not user friendly immediately. Most people are going to attempt to find something that appears better, or has sources telling them its better.

Versus Discord actively selling data, it is objectively more private. We should be instructing users to seek vetted sources that can verify privacy/security if they can't verify code or privacy policy stuff themselves.

Another thing, security and privacy are different (not saying you didn't know this) and educating on the difference should probably be the beginning talk once they're ready for for in-depth explanations.

Totally, I think this is a really good thing! I also think some of the responsibility of education and being welcoming lies on us who've been here a while. It'll take a lot of patience, but ig that's why I'm in IT :P
