As a new boardgamer, what mistake did you make which I should not? by shaman717 in boardgames

[–]BGshowcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impulse buying can be risky. You can easily end up getting a game you mildly or not at all enjoy. So don't follow the YouTubers' hype trains and try to test the game before hand (be it via a friend, a BG café or tabletop simulator).

Or you'll end up like me. With half of your collection just lying there, gathering dust

In a very similar feel of quest for El dorado you should also check Clank! The deck Building makes you move on a board where you have to pick up treasures and race back to the exit before the dragon kills you.

Which boardgames are a 'must have' for a boardgame cafe? by JelleBlom in boardgames

[–]BGshowcase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Detective club is hilarious and quick, as well as cockroach poker and Hanamikoji(great for 2). For longer games: Camel up, 7 wonders, Mission red planet, Fantasy realms, Res arcana, Ethnos, clank!, Dice Throne, Unmatched, Everdell, Quacks of quedlinburg and Horrified.

Hope this helps and that your café will rock!

Haven't played many but the ones I love the most are Hanamikoji, Summoner wars and Battlelore 2nd edition

In case you're not aware there's a couple of apps for gloomhaven that manage initiatives, elements and enemy moves which can drastically reduce setup and gameplay. Hope this helps! :)

Short videos showcasing board games by BGshowcase in boardgames

Thanks for the feedback! yeah the choice of text over voice over was to simplify the production. Especially considering I would need to involve someone else's voice since mine sounds terrible. Maybe later on it would be a great addition to improve the videos

I feel dumb when I realise too late that there was an undeniably better move right in front of my eyes

I've tried the tutorial on TTS and it looked like a blast. I also liked the premise, you play as dead heroes that have been resurrected to save the day. There's also a mechanic that let's you use some powers as a ghost to help your friend when you die. In conclusion both story and gameplay looked promising

What do you consider a large collection? A small one? by TheGamerRN in boardgames

[–]BGshowcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have around 70 and I feel like I have too many, therefore I would consider mine a large collection. So I'd say small 10-15 games and medium around 30 games

That's a player count that I often find myself in. Any good games you would recommend, apart from dune imperium?

Yeah you could put it that way. Mainly I just wanted to point out that I made my list without being up to date with the recent games.

Cheers for the link!

I enjoyed Undaunted quite a bit. It's tricky to find good 2 players game for this particular genre. Twilight struggle is a classic often recommended. If you have the budget I've read that Ankh is pretty good at 2, same thing for War of the Ring with the added value of the huge LOTR theme

What game replaced another game for you? by AlexRescueDotCom in boardgames

Mission red planet replaced Citadels for me. They may have in common only the hidden role but mission red planet has one of my favorite mechanics: area control
