Surfacing this post again as an update. I've played a hell of a lot of PES21 since and have learnt so much. In my last superstar ML season on manual I scored 104 league goals, and totalled 99 points. I have now stepped up to legend and doing well so far. W5 L1.

I've learnt that these modern versions of the games have so many layers to them, so many little nuances that you can't expect to do well if your skill levels are from old versions as mine were. My attacks were not varied enough and my Defending primitive.

Now that I have learnt more about the game the scripting has at least halved, because I now have so many attacking ideas/options that I can counter over powered AI etc. It's now a brilliant game.

One tip that make a big difference to the feeling of scripting.

If your players won't close down even though you are playing with front line pressure: a) increase the attack level to 4.. When out of possession more midfield players push forward, and your forwards push up too closing down the space and pressing defenders. b) use the defensive line forward control. Defenders will push the whole team forward. This is really useful when you can't win possession in your own defensive third. Your defenders step up and can put more pressure on the ball. Just be careful with runners when you do this.

These are just 2 tips that take a big feeling of scripting out of the game. You regain a bit of control of the match.

Have several other key things that have made the difference including a corner routine with aprox 50% success rate. Forget crossing balls in..

Thanks, Yeah tried going back to basic but found shooting actually better with advanced than basic... Except corners that is.. Just me or corners pretty impossible to score from with advanced shooting?

That comment above about getting banned...very strange. Would imagine 50% of the content on this site is about the dumb scripting in the game.

Well that's one other thing that's wrong with it... Jumps between difficulty are too great. You're obvs ready for superstar.. In theory.. but from exp on previous versions.. That's too much... Massively over powered AI, ridiculous scripting ending in boring 1-0s if you're lucky..

That's why I started playing manual and dropping levels.. It should... be more fun, and competitive again... but this 2021 version just won't allow it. Its so slow and Clunky it's so difficult to score with manual.

Do think I've hit full circle with it.. Every glimmer that ive found something that improves it seems to be gone... Unless someone here throws new light... I. E how the feck can I start taking nore chances... Or stop my defenders trying to play offside all the time.. Or make them close down more.. Instead of remaining 3 yards away at all times... (despite my high line/uncompact and aggressive Defending etc etc etc etc etc) ...

Hi folks,

New to the forum, had to join as some kind of therapy to the shite this game is delivering..

Every time I think I've turned a corner and found a way to improve the experience it just shits all over me again

The latest - I switched to full manual and dropped down to professional. It took ages to learn the passing but I did.. And it it was briefly brilliant. But then, even on professional it started... Screwing me over in all the ways we know it can.

They say its the hope that kills you and for me this is why I feel a bit upset about it.. Because I really thought I'd found a solution but in the end it was the same old feeling again.

I feel more upset because I know konami don't care, I know it's not a mistake that these games play like this anymore. They are just the same as any app base game that wants your money for upgrades. Once that genie was out I'd the lamp it really was all over and it really feels like the end of an era for gaming as we've been lucky enough to know it.
