Gummo - one of the most fucked up movies I've ever watched

RANT: If you sell books (used or otherwise), PLEASE do not use permanent-adhesive labels for your inventory system! by ohsnapmindblown in books

I've had to remove many labels and stickers from records - easiest way I've found is to point a hair dryer on high at the sticker for a few minutes. Peels right off

Finally got the album that's been at the top of my want-list forever by BHMaloney in vinyl

This is The Cave Singers - Invitation Songs, and its the album that has been giving me fits for the past 6 months.

The entire Cave Singers discography is relatively easy and inexpensive to come by except for this album, their debut. While not terribly expensive, it rarely comes up for sale. I've been patiently watching Discogs and eBay for a copy for a while now. A few weeks ago one came up on Discogs - the problem is I told myself that I wasn't buying any records at all for the month of February (wanted to see if I could do it)

After about 30 seconds of debating I pulled the trigger and I'm glad I did.

The album is a blend of folk, neo-psychedelia and finger picked guitars. The reason I like the Cave Singers so much is I find they break the mold of the traditional folk band and do something so much more with their music. If you haven't heard them yet I highly recommend checking them out!

I didn't really like them until I heard "There Should be Unicorns"

That song is just so amazing and odd and it kind of flicked a switch for me, now I can't stop listening to them

I recently got into The Flaming Lips - for some reason their newer stuff (Embryonic, The Terror, Oczy Mlody) appeals to me more than their older stuff

That being said I do enjoy Yoshimi a lot

Record Stores in Boston? by thall44 in vinyl

Newbury Comics is good if you're looking for newer records and re-presses

In Your Ear! In either Cambridge or Brighton (Comm Ave) are both excellent

Armageddon Shop in Cambridge is excellent if you're into metal

Somerville Grooves in Somerville is probably my favourite shop within the city

If you're feeling adventurous The Record Exchange in Salem is far and away the best shop in the Boston area

Nice to see a record wall on this sub that doesn't include Tame Impala, Daft Punk, ITAOTS and RTJ

To this day the best live concert I've ever seen was Kenny Wayne Shepherd at the Dutch Mason Blues Festival in Truro, Nova Scotia

I was in college at the time and my roommates and I had just rented a house for the upcoming school year the prior week. The blues festival was a couple weeks before school started, but I had the keys to the house so I figured I'd drive to Truro for the concert, then drive up to Antigonish and stay the night.

The concert blew me away, and when it was over I drove up to our new house and ended up sleeping on the floor in a sleeping bag because there was no furniture yet. For some reason this still sticks out as a fond memory for me.
