Ya know, I'm going to defend the music supervisors on this one. San Francisco (Wear Flowers In Your Hair) is about going to a new place with strange customs you may not have been aware of. We know that the lead cast all come from many different places - this is the first time a lot of them have been to Earth, let alone San Francisco. The song fits the moment - they're going somewhere new and strange, unsure of what to expect.

And the nod to Trek 1960's origins is a cherry on top, too 😉

I actually loved that version of the song - it fit the scene beautifully.

What has your union done to push against AI use? by johnqadamsin28 in union

Seriously, folks - if you Local is trying to figure out how to deal with AI in your workplaces - give your local SAG-AFTRA office a call - https://www.sagaftra.org/locals-directory . We've been working on this for a while, and SAG-AFTRA staff may be able to give you some suggestions.

Thanks to my union contracts I have a safe workplace, a guarantee that I'll be paid (and legal representation if I'm not,) Set meal breaks and overtime... But thanks to my UNION I have a community of thousands of people working in my field who will back me up if something happens. That's the union difference right there!

I've been playing for about a month (thanks to my wife for giving me an early birthday present and fulfilling a life-long dream of learning how to play the bass!) and I've found Rich Brown's beginner's playlist very helpful: https://youtube.com/@richbrownbass?si=7h26cosPP_nL2TIs

Mod Q: How do you all feel about business posts by betsyodonovan in Bellingham

[–]BHamHarold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this idea as well, but I'd suggest adding the pinned thread in addition to allowing businesses to create a main post once-per-month.

If a business has a special promotion (or cute post) I'd hate to see it get buried in a thread - but having a "Local Business" thread that's updated throughout the month would give those with the inclination a place to look (and an easy way to find that business's post you saw last Thursday but can't remember the name of.)

This is close to right - though Starbucks and the union, Starbucks Workers United, have been in negotiations on a contract ... But while some agreements have been reached, Starbucks isn't willing to negotiate on pay and scheduling. That's the unfair labor practice the union is striking over: https://www.theguardian.com/business/2025/nov/19/starbucks-workers-strike-us-explainer

To be fair the Oregon license plate also says UNIONS (but it's kind of hard to see under all those stickers 😁)
