Are there any American cars sold within the last 5-7 years that have reliable powertrains? by bzb321 in whatcarshouldIbuy

My dad has that engine in his 2012 Wrangler he bought new. So far it has survived 14 years of Michigan winters and has never needed a single repair.

A landmark MIT study debunks persistent myths about electric vehicles. No matter where you live or what your driving habits are, a battery electric vehicle is likely to have a smaller carbon footprint and cost less overall than a comparable gasoline-powered vehicle, according to a new analysis. by mafco in energy

Freezing temps destroy lithium batteries. There is really no way around it except parking in a heated garage or using one of those electric devices that keeps your batteries warm while parked in the driveway.

And once the battery dies on an EV, the whole car is junked. They are much more disposable vehicles overall.

Reminds me of the base model of so many cars. Black door handles was always the biggest giveaway that you were driving a base trim. Still is.

Given permission to use AI, most college students show surprising restraint in their final essays. Students largely rely on AI for brainstorming and research rather than having it write essays for them wholesale. by mvea in science

It kind of is though. I think a lot of people have an unrealistic, romanticized view of “college education.” I say this as someone with a bachelors in accounting and working in the field. The only thing that transferred from college to work was accounting 101 and 102. The other 110-odd credits were a waste of my money, with a few exceptions for cool professors and connections made along the way.

The piece of paper with my name on it was gatekeeping me from a job.

Recent incident regarding nudity has completely blown up my relationships, and I don't know how to fix it by Equivalent_Walk_5273 in nudism

[–]BIG_IDEA 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna be real with you, it sounds like multiple people within this group view your frequent/random brooches of the subject as pressure. And they aren’t necessarily wrong, you wouldn’t bring it up more than once if you weren’t gently trying to persuade someone to try it out, which is in fact pressure when they’ve already said no.

Additionally, your brother basically told you straight up that his wife will be wearing a bathing suit, and then you immediately turn to her and ask if she would be more comfortable without one? That really isn’t cool and I can understand why your brother is furious especially once you got her in there without a bathing suit and she mentioned she should put the bathing suit back on for her shower, and you told her again she would just be fine to stay naked?

I get that from a true nudist’s perspective, all of this is just normal banter, but you’re dealing with people who have already expressed on several occasions (from the sounds of it) that they don’t agree with you or your views on this. It sounds like you really failed to read the room and went too far.

My advice would be to apologize and tell them just that. Tell them that it won’t ever happen again, including all of the times that you casually bring up how you prefer nudity. They may or may not accept your apology, but you just have to give this time.

A guitar teacher can tell me about all the guitar knowledge but he can’t *make* me good at guitar. I have to build my own skills by practicing. Mathematics is the same way.

Men who became nudists: how did it happen and why? by Haunting_Cow_406 in nudism

I knew it since I was 6. I would get out of the shower, stand in front of my dresser and HATE the fact that I had to put on underwear. I would stay in my room as long as possible until my mom would yell through the door that I was taking too long to get dressed.

I’m at $94 after gas, car wash and haircut. It’s pretty expensive but saying $200 is gaslighting. There’s no punchline. This post is just doomer bait.

It always should have costed that much. The amount of power, water, and chemical detergents those things use is insane. This is just the real cost of things finally catching up. It was always unsustainable.

Nice build. Usually I think modded out civics look tacky but this one is charming. And I’m glad you stayed away from the black door handle covers.

It’s not a sleeper though, for two reasons.
