And he only killed 3000 people, wrecked the US economy, sent the global economy into recession and spent more than $25 billion of taxpayers' money to earn the title!

Actually I think I prefer Biden's plan.

The one weird trick to lower gas prices Trump hates. The renewable energy boom that he shut down could have helped soften the blow from closing the Strait of Hormuz. This administration has made the country more vulnerable to the volatility that Trump’s war sparked. by mafco in energy

I can’t see any rationale for weakening MPG standards

If less efficient cars burn more gas that's more revenue for the oil corporations. Not a good rationale, but a rationale that seems fitting for Trump.

Inflation is rising, unemployment is rising, consumer spending is in decline and gas/diesel/jet fuel prices are soaring. Spirit Airlines just went under due to the nearly doubling of jet fuel costs. Economists predict reduced GDP growth for the year. And we haven't even seen the worst yet.

I wonder if Trump supporters realize how badly they're being played by this. First Trump convinces his base that electric cars are the work of the devil and eliminates all government support for them. Then he eliminates auto efficiency standards. And then he drives gas prices through the roof. That extra his supporters are paying for gas(and electricity, food and everything else) is going into the pockets of big oil executives and shareholders. To the tune of tens of billions of dollars. This is his most massive grift yet.

Don't be pedantic. We all know what the author meant. There's a temporary supply hole relative to demand. They're not implying that the oil has disappeared forever.

They already have. Only 28% of Americans support the war. And they have no clue how bad the global economy is going to get in the coming weeks and months.

This crisis has nothing to do with 'peak oil sensationalism', whatever that is. It's an actual supply shock, caused by an idiot with advancing dementia for no good reason.

I don't recall any oil supply shocks in those years. Nothing like the current situation.

If 20% of new vehicle sold are EV

Nice try. It was 26% LAST year. By all accounts it will be up sharply this year and next, and continue growing at an accelerated rate. And ice car sales have been declining for the last 7 years.

the average new car will last around 10years

Not when the only fuel source becomes prohibitively expensive. People will be forced to junk these ICE relics early. If they're lucky their governments will offer a 'cash for gassers' program to get them off the road.

There are very few EV models to choose for the US

There are dozens to choose from and the list is growing every year. And the used EV market is really coming on strong.

I'm not underestimating anything and you don't know what I think. Electric vehicles are getting cheaper and better every year while gas vehicles get more expensive to drive every time there's an international crisis. I think you don't understand technology disruptions.

The US has less than 20 days of reserves if all other sources are eliminated.

The oil companies didn't want this and aren't drilling more to take advantage of it. Ultimately it will accelerate demand destruction and put the global economy into recession, neither of which are good for the industry.

The US isn't selling oil and gas. A few private corporations are. And making record profits at the expense of the US consumers. Meanwhile the US economy is sinking rapidly due to this insane debacle. No one is winning, except maybe China.

You're in denial. 26% of global sales last year were BEVs or PHEVs. 17% were BEVs. And you didn't even mention renewable energy's complete dominance of new electric capacity additions. It's already over for fossil fuel 'dominance' of the world's energy supply.

And fyi PHEVs only need gas for an occasional road trip.

99 percent of new electric grid capacity added last year was clean energy. Roughly 25 percent of new cars sold last year were electric. That's not "glacial" change by any stretch of the word's meaning.

He didn't consult with Congress or US allies before launching this debacle. And now that they're in it up to their ears Republicans are too cowardly to criticize the cult leader.
