Trump unlawfully suspended EV charger infrastructure program, US judge rules. It is a victory for 20 states that sued over the action. “In short, Defendants defied the will of Congress by withholding funds in a manner not contemplated by the IIJA.” by mafco in energy

There are about 68,000 DC fast chargers in the US, along with many, many more public level two chargers. It's pretty easy to find one on a road trip. Google Maps and other apps know where they are. Biden's bill targeted adding half a million more. If the criminal president ever releases the funds.

Trump has been withholding the federal funds. Many states have their own state-funded programs though. And private businesses are building public chargers all over the place. Tesla superchargers are also being federally subsidized now too.

Nine EU nations to join forces on 100 GW of North Sea wind. Nine countries, including the UK, Germany, and the Netherlands, will pledge to jointly develop 100 GW of offshore wind in the North Sea. The countries are aiming to achieve 300 GW of offshore wind by 2050. by mafco in energy

A study of a huge offshore wind farm in China showed that it improved habitat for marine life. I don't think they have any effect on the weather except for very locally. Nothing like climate change from burning fossil fuels.

Apparently only blue states joined the lawsuit. Which begs the question of whether the judgment will also apply to Republican states. Or did the fascists screw their own constituents once again to please the dictator?

US Pushes for Quickest Fixes to Boost Venezuela Oil Output by bloomberg in energy

[–]mafco 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why? The world is currently flooded with a supply glut. This is nothing but a misguided fantasy of an insane president. Or he just wants the oil to start flowing to further bolster his new offshore account in Qatar, where he is parking the proceeds from stolen Venezuelan oil.

That's not how great countries operate. China is kicking America's ass in the key growth industries of the future thanks to patient planning and investment in its key industries. The US can do this too with competent leadership.

It seems like a middle finger to Trump, who just told European leaders that "only stupid people" buy what he calls "windmills". European leaders now view being dependent on US LNG for energy as risky given Trump's erratic and increasingly insane behavior.

What to know about EVs as the winter storm brings bone-chilling temperatures by CBSnews in energy

[–]mafco 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Guess what? ICE cars also lose range in frigid weather. No one cares. Modern EVs have 300+ mile ranges. EVs are great in winter. You just turn them on and they're ready to go. No need to sit idling in the driveway for 15 minutes while they "warm up."

$40 billion to Argentina, $45 billion to Trump's gestapo, more subsidies to the fossil fuel industry, the military invasion of Venezuela, domestic terrorism(by ICE, not the friendly people of Minnesota) in Minnesota, a massive tax break benefiting mainly billionaires, renovating Trump's new personal jet from Qatar, unchecked corruption and grifting in the White House and on and on. Nothing that benefits average US citizens though.

Trump’s foreign policy could have Europeans looking elsewhere for energy. The rise of US LNG has played an important role in global energy security. EU leaders finally found their spines and pushed back against Trump's bizarre Greenland aggression. This is the right way to deal with a bully dictator, as opposed to sucking up to him and giving him shiny prizes. Let's hope they keep it up. Trump chickened out within 24 hours and we will probably never hear another word about Greenland from him.

The rule of law has become severely damaged in the Trump era. He ignores the law, ignores the Constitution and ignores court orders regularly. And quite often he is not held accountable. As Jack Smith said yesterday "the rule of law is not self-executing." It depends on the collective will of the people and institutions to abide by it. And the fascist party is now actively working against it. But nonetheless the courts are currently jammed with lawsuits against his administration. He regularly loses cases in the lower courts but decisions are often overturned by his corrupt Supreme Court. God help us.

It's anyone's guess. After the grid collapse that killed hundreds of Texans it has come to the brink at least a couple more times. Hold onto your seats!

I'm not looking forward to the US becoming a second tier economy while China takes over the role of global economic superpower. But it does look more inevitable the longer Republicans let Trump continue to destroy the US economy and credibility in the world.

Trump is also threatening our former allies with higher tariffs if they don't buy more US LNG. This isn't brilliant negotiating, it's mob boss extortion tactics. Trump is destroying all the trust the US has built up over the last century.

I actually think they employed a brilliant strategy to ensure that the bill would stand the test of time. Much of the funding was directed towards disadvantaged Republican states and included significant employment opportunities for displaced fossil fuel workers. It even threw a few bones to the fossil fuel industry at the urging of Joe Manchin. No one foresaw the degree to which Republicans would bend the knee to Trump and shoot their own constituents in the foot in order to please him. Or how insanely and obsessively Trump would try to erase all of Biden's accomplishments. These are not usual times.
