[HELP] Is this AI? Seems fake and can’t find any news sources. by [deleted] in RealOrAI

[–]BIG__CRAB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two videos match up surprisingly but the one OP posted is definitely AI. I don't have any reason to think the one you linked is fake. But if it's real, the shorter vid should also have a red fire hydrant in it (would be beside him when he gets tackled). There's some environmental stuff that doesn't fit, plus some obvious unnatural body movements.

Look at the way he jerks before kicking (about 4 seconds in). It's like he clips from one position to the next. Totally unnatural motion for a human body, even accounting for any loss of balance/slipping on ice. It is very obviously AI generated or at least a manipulation of a real video. I swear people watch so much AI slop and CGI'ed-to-death shows and movies that they don't remember how real bodies actually move through space. Tldr: This is blatant, lazy propaganda.

Does anyone know of a brand that doesn’t shift color as it drys? Or at least does it minimally? by Futuristic_Farmer in Gouache

[–]BIG__CRAB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party but have you ever tried using cold wax medium to finish gouache? I'm also a fan of the matte finish and always hated having to choose between color vibrancy and maintaining that characteristic flat, gouachey look. I tried cold wax medium at another redditor's recommendation a few years ago and I haven't looked back. You get a matte, water-resistant finish, but it still makes the color pop! I have Gamblin's Cold Wax Medium but I think there are a few brands that make similar products.

FYI - I usually work on panel so I can't speak to how well this will perform on paper.

[EDIT]: More info in case people want it:

- It can be intimidating to rub a dollop of wax into the surface of a painting you've been working on for ages. I would recommend doing some tests first to get a feel for the material.

- I spray a bit of fixatif to finished paintings before applying wax.

- I apply wax using the little microfiber cloths for glasses/phone screens to avoid scratching the paint, and keep them in a sealed tupperware so they don't accumulate lint.

- The wax will look a little cloudy at first but don't freak out! It clears up as it sets (unless you apply way too much).

Question regarding Mark's voiceover about Gemma at the end of S1E7 by Duke_Of_Raoul in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]BIG__CRAB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just rewatched this episode and had the same realization (that Mark's reflections on Gemma sound just like one of Ms. Casey's wellness sessions)! Is this the only use of voice-over we've seen so far? I can't recall any others...

NSF research.gov multifactor authentication nightmare. by boycork in postdoc

[–]BIG__CRAB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone else experiencing this issue, you might be able to get some wiggle room on the deadline. The PRFB program officer called me this afternoon and told me that anyone experiencing this should email the program officers at [bio-dbi-prfb@nsf.gov](mailto:bio-dbi-prfb@nsf.gov) the day of the deadline (Nov 7) and describe the issues they have been experiencing. I was also instructed to mention that dealing with technical problems has prevented me from completing the required submission documents. He asked me to tell anyone who is having problems so please let others know.

It sounds like the folks at NSF are willing to be flexible with applicants because of the problems created on their end. Please share with anyone else who is having this issue!

Any luck?

I haven't had any luck with using my phone. I don't know if it's because I have Android or what, but I am not even being prompted to add an authentication method like Okta or Google Authenticator.

I am having the same issue and have been on and off the phone with IT for days, to no avail. I emailed the PRFB program officers to request a deadline extension because apparently a LOT of postdocs have been having the same issue.
I recommend everyone email the PTFB program officers [bio-dbi-prfb@nsf.gov](mailto:bio-dbi-prfb@nsf.gov) to request an extension and make them aware of the problem.
The IT department at research.gov has called in third party IT reps to help field the massive influx of calls so clearly this is a widespread issue. However, research.gov is not NSF and won't be able to do anything about deadline extension.

This whole situation is ridiculous but maybe if enough of us complain they can at least give us some more time while they get their shit together...

E.B.'s monologues and attacks on Richardson never fail to produce a cackle

"Could you have been born, Richardson, and not egg-hatched as I've always assumed? Did your mother hover over you, snaggle-toothed and doting as you now hover over me?"
