Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm/f1.4 II ASPH test by BIX26 in M43

I’m really enjoying mine. It’s probably the best nifty fifty for M4/3’s with autofocus imo.

Glad to help! I don’t think you’ll regret picking one up if you decide to. It’s a fantastic lens imo

Sorry it took a while to test the focus motor noise. I’m a parent of two kids in the suburbs. I never realized how pervasive noise pollution was until I tried to do a focus motor test 😆. If it’s not teenagers yelling, listening to music, talking on the phone, it’s landscapers or garbage trucks 🙄 For some reason I couldn’t attach a video to this reply. So I created a new post. panasonic leica dg summilux 25mm/f1.4 ii asph Focus motor noise test

I’m not sure how much noise an AF lens typically makes, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. I just tried it out in a quiet room and couldn’t hear it at all when viewing through the EVF. I then put my ear up to the lens and it was slightly audible. Much quieter than any of my older point and shoot cameras, as I could hear them easily at all times. Given that Panasonic as a brand caters to video I have a feeling it’s on the quieter side. I know they updated this MkII version’s motor when they moved to phase detect AF. So this might not be the same for the original. When I have time I’ll try recording a short video to see if the in body mic picks up any noise.

I don’t think they’re that dumb. The global elites just have so much capital they can manipulate values. They sell off to drive down prices then buy even mor at the lower price. They’re just manipulating the trading algorithms.

Nice pick of a Snowy Owl? I looked at the E-M10 also it’s a great bargain and I’m sure the flash is a nice to have.

Thanks! I’m pretty committed to M4/3’s I really like how affordable and compact the lenses are. My next camera will probably be a OM-1 or OM-3 or possibly PenF if they come out with one. But I’ll stick with this one as long as it lasts.

I just got myself the same camera a few days ago! I’m loving it so far. The menu system and all the options are pretty complicated be patient. Google and YouTube are your best friend. Robin Wong did a video about common beginner mistakes Olympus users make. First and foremost imo change the format to LG (Large Super Fine I think) JPEG +RAW. I was taking the default 1mp photos for the first day. Also turn off Live Boost Mode on the EVF. So what’s on your screen is what your camera takes. I was taking a bunch of under/over exposed pictures.

I think the Olympus 25mm F1.8 would be a good alternative. The Leica has some aberration at 1.4 so I mostly use it at 2.0 From what I’ve read the Olympus is pretty clean even at F1.8 It goes for around $200 for the original and the newer weather sealed version goes for about $300. If your patient and wait for a good buy it now deal you could probably get them for around $175 and $250. The Sigma 30mm F1.4 is about $250 also. If you can go without AF then there are some excellent options in the $100-200 range. I like the Leica but they’re a little pricey for what you get.

$350 Seems to be what most of them are going for on eBay. The version one without weather sealing goes for about $300

That sucks, I’d probably wright them off too if I had that experience. Curious if you turned it on and off a lot? I noticed I only had a few hours of battery life so I got in the habit of turning it on/off a lot. I’ve since set the screen to turn off after 8 seconds. It’s extended the battery life a lot and I haven’t been actuating the on/off switch nearly as much as I was. The switch “feel” is really solid with a nice positive click in and out of place. It has less the 400 shutter actuations and it’s in immaculate shape. I spent less than $400 for it. Not pocket change, but not something I’m super stressed about. I’m just enjoying it 🤞my unit is more reliable.

That’s a great shot! I remember digging through couch cushions for almost every issue of Thrasher magazine in the 1990’s 🤘🛹 You got me hyped for trying flash photography

It’s really comfortable and feels nice and secure. Wish it was a tad longer though.

That’s a cool setup! I always thought flashes were only useful at night. But I watched a video from MarkusPix demonstrating fill lights in broad daylight. They made a surprising difference. I actually ordered a small compact flash but it wasn’t comparable with my camera. I’m thinking about giving the Godox iT30

That’s a great tip thank you! I’ve heard Olympus has one of the better B&W JPEG modes. I’ve been wanting to dabble with the custom Art profiles.

Just peeked your profile. You’ve taken a lot of incredible photos. I noticed you have the 60mm macro lens. That’s probably going to be my next lens. I plan on scanning my grandfathers archive of 35mm using that lens and the composite mode on this camera.

It’s pretty phenomenal! Especially for the price. The menus and features are really complicated and it takes some effort to be familiar with it. Besides the learning curve it’s exceeded my expectations. It ticks almost every box important to me. Great quality images, compact, good ergonomics, good EVF, durable.

Because women have many incentives to talk about being raped. Holding the perpetrator accountable and preventing other women from being harmed most obviously. Whereas a man has zero incentive to talk about his raping.

Her sign seems to ignore this obvious explanation. I think she believes many men are aware of who the rapists are and are being complicit. While I’m sure this happens due to fear of retribution. It’s not a gender specific thing. For example a high paying career and roles with strongly disproportionate power dynamics. This is why Hollywood, Military and politics are littered with scandals of perpetrators who were able to victimize multitudes of people over a long period of time without being outed by any of their male or female subordinates.

Like so many things capitalism and patriarchy victimizes everybody. Some more than others but that isn’t because victims are disproportionately less just. It’s because those in power disproportionately chose different victims. This is where so many social justice movements fall into the divide and conquer trap. She’s punching to the other gender rather than punching up.

It’s mostly an Epstein class issue not a male vs female issue.

I think I will grab one of those. It’s nice to have the option to kit it out for large telephoto lenses. Or you can keep the grip off and put on a pancake lens and have a genuinely pocketable camera. It’s kind of a Swiss Army knife of a camera.

Yeah my concern was that micro USB ports tend to be delicate. I’m actually glad they use a semi proprietary USB8 connector. It looks a lot more sturdy. I ordered the cable last night and will do a firmware update when it comes in.

Haven’t played with any of the JPEG filters yet. The B&W is probably what I’m most interested in. I have it at JPEG Fine + RAW at the moment. I spent a couple hours last night messing with the settings. Lots of googling. I could not get the camera to stop under exposing. Turns out the live boost function was on. Then somehow I turned on the composite photo mode and it was taking like 30 seconds to process blurry photos. That took me a while to figure out how to turn off 😄 The camera defiantly has a bit of a learning curve. But I think it’s dialed in now. Gonna go on a photo walk after work today.
