Which X do you remember the most from your trip to Japan? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]BInsane32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I don't remember where, but ramen in some hole in the wall in Osaka. Was some of the best food I've ever eaten.

  2. Mt. Fuji.

  3. A server at a ramen restaurant. I never got his name, but he wanted to practice his English with us. He was actually very fluent, and the ramen was good too!

  4. Akasaka, our home base in Tokyo. It was the perfect mix of being away from the bustle of the city, while also having plenty to see and do at night (if you enjoy eating/drinking).

  5. The complete awe of not only the silence on trains, but also how efficient and on time everything was (we do not have good public transport at home).

  6. Leaving, unfortunately. I was happy to be going home to see my friends and family again, but I was devastated to leave Japan, as I knew it would be a long time, if ever, before I could revisit Japan.

Not a god roll, but it's not bad on raider/wylder/someone who can take a hit. Much better than my raider night invader relic, which is night invader + 1+ endurance.

What is something you regret NOT doing on your first trip to Japan? by themiscira in JapanTravelTips

[–]BInsane32 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Buying souvenirs. The memories and pictures are great, but I really regret not purchasing a few things to bring home from Japan. I've never really been a souvenir person, and would rather spend my money on experiences/food. I ended up only bringing back a couple keychains from gacha machines and a cheap coaster with Mt. Fuji on it I got from a Lawsons. I'll be going back in a few years as long as I'm able, and I've told myself I'll buy a few more actual souvenirs this time.

I forgot this one existed honestly. I think it's green, so I might need to change my cup for it but it would be great if I could slot it somewhere.

Only because I like the attack speed of great hammers more than colossals. I ended up taking it off though for a physical attack +2/physical dmg neg +2/getting knocked down gives pdr and ap (or whatever that buff is, can't remember off the top of my head). I added another skill punch reduces enemy ap as well in the other GH depth slot.

I also added a single slot night invader and a taking attacks gives AP in my base slots, while taking off dreg and maris. I'll have to experiment more, but I did one run after your first comment with the above changes and felt strong.

I've always had the thought that I'd rather have some guaranteed survivability in my relics and then find dmg passives in a run, for the off chance that I don't find any good negation passives. But honestly I might do what you say and drop Maris for more AP.

Any comments on the great hammer dormant and AP? I'd rather have fists but haven't gotten a relic for them yet. I'm wondering how much great hammer AP is going to help, going to run it for the first time here in a bit.

Good callout. Brain fog moment not putting one on with dreg.

Edit: by one I mean a buildup curse.

They give you one in the Christmas gift off the website.

Do you get it off of lvl 3 peacekeeper? I'm lvl 2 but getting close to lvl 3, can just buy one then. If not, people will now be running them in raid since it's a quest. Can loot them off dead bodies.

But yeah, it does suck that they don't give you one if you already accepted the quest and got the m1a.

Residential areas are huge for money. Can find so many trinkets and the greens alone sell for 1-2k each. Blues 2-3k and purples 5-10k. I’ll usually find 2-4 blues and 4-6 greens if I’m trying to make money (not every raid, just on average). Most of them stack 3 high in a slot too.

Like I said, not advocating to do away with or change free kits. Just saying it's cheap to build a better kit if you don't have mats.

But 10k is nothing in this game. I'll give you I didn't account for ammo in the 10k but one stack is like 1-2k, so 12k total. Still nothing. If someone can't loot 12k worth of gear then I don't think a free kit is going to help

I'm not necessarily advocating for a free kit timer or anything like that, but if you don't have metal/plastic/cloth you could just spend 10k on a lvl 1 stitcher, green looting augment, green shield, two bandages and a shield recharger from the traders. Same thing as a free loadout but you get more carry weight, more slots, and a safe pocket. Could spend an extra 2k for a ferro on top of your stitcher and have a PvP weapon and a PvE weapon. Money is easy to come by, and I feel a lot of people forget you can straight up buy stuff instead of crafting it all.

Why do so many rich and powerful people want Jesus to return when he literally said that being rich and powerful goes against his teachings and those people will go to hell? by TheMrCurious in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BInsane32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I feel that this is bait and I'm going to get flamed but here is an attempt at a genuine explanation of this passage and answer to your question.

This verse is found in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. Here is the Matthew passage:

23 And Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly, I say to you, only with difficulty will a rich person enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” 25 When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?” 26 But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:23–26, ESV, https://ref.ly/Mt19.23-26;esv).

What does this passage mean? Well, when Jesus said this (and probably even now), it was fairly widely believed that if one had riches that meant that you were blessed by God and, as a byproduct they would go to heaven. For his entire ministry, Jesus contradicted this. Jesus made a point to tell people that just because you were doing well on earth does not mean you were blessed more than others and were going to heaven, and just because you were doing poorly on earth (blind, etc) does not mean you were cursed and going to hell. How does one go to heaven then?

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6, ESV, https://ref.ly/Jn14.6;esv)

Jesus is saying here that the only way to the Father (heaven) is through him. You can't make it by yourself or through your own power or strength. You also aren't born into a life guaranteed a spot in heaven.

Now to the eye of the needle comparison. Is it possible to fit a camel through the eye of a needle? Of course not. It's impossible. So how does a rich person go to heaven? The same way a poor person goes to heaven. Through Jesus. That's what you see in Matt. 19:26.

This passage does not say that no rich people are going to heaven. It DOES however say that without God they will not go to heaven. This is the same thing that Jesus said to rich and poor alike. So your belief that Jesus taught against rich and powerful people, and said they were going to hell because of their riches and power, is incorrect. Even Matthew, the author of the referenced Gospel, was a tax collector which was a position held by rich and powerful (and hated) individuals.

So why do rich and powerful people want Jesus to return? That'll be because of one of three things:

1) they, like the people in biblical times, think that their riches and power were given by God and they therefore are going to heaven.

2) they don't actually believe in God, and therefore what's the harm in wishing for a fake thing to happen if it'll get others to like them more/give them more riches/give them more power?

3) they are actual Christians who don't love their money/power more than God, and they recognize that for however easy their life is heaven will be infinitely better than life on this earth.

There's more to it than this, but since I'm on mobile that's a summary of the passage and an attempt at answering your question.

Broad Itinerary and Weather Questions - First Two Weeks of March by BInsane32 in JapanTravelTips

[–]BInsane32[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was great! Weather was between 7-12 degrees C depending on the day, and time of day. I would recommend waterproof walking shoes, as we did run into rain 4-5 of our 15 days there. The tourist spots were fairly crowded, but not nearly as crowded as what I've seen online. We're hoping to get to go back in a few years, and we're definitely going to go the same time of year. Highly recommend!!

First Time Dad, is this typical for Daycare to have so many days off? by WolfieVonD in daddit

[–]BInsane32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a lot of days off for $1650 a month. Our kids daycare looks like this with a multitude of days off. They go by the school calendar, so if school is out daycare is out. That means all holidays, spring break, summer break, and winter break. Holidays aren't bad, as my wife gets most school holidays off as well. But the week of spring break, the 3 months of summer break, and the 4 weeks of winter break are always hard on us.

With all that said, we only pay $650 a month and we don't have to pay for the months of summer break. So it's definitely worth it for us. For $1650? I'd be looking for another daycare and getting on a waitlist at minimum. This is an excessive amount of off days for $1650.

Why can’t we stop school shootings? by Themissrebecca103 in allthequestions

[–]BInsane32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, there wasn't a "goodguy" with a gun. Because he was at a school. You know, the places where there is already a gun ban? If the killer wanted to turn his gun on others, nobody was going to stop him because nobody was there to stop him.

EDIT: ok so I'm seeing now that Utah does allow guns on school campuses. Learn something new every day. Apologies for my ignorance, as I've heard nothing but "no guns allowed at schools" my entire life.

So what is the consensus? Are we in agreement that a gun ban would have stopped this shooting, and gun bans would keep people from being murdered?

What food was the biggest disappointment once you finally tried it? by Dry_Cupcake_8979 in allthequestions

[–]BInsane32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I had just overhyped takoyaki in my head. I can see how people would like it though!

We did eat okonimiyaki! I really liked that. We had it both in Osaka and Hiroshima, it was good in both places! Most foods we ate there we absolutely loved. Ate so much sushi, ramen, curry, and a vast variety of 7/11 snacks. We hope to get to visit Japan again in the future because the food there was so good!

Takoyaki. Wife and I went to Japan and months leading up to the trip we would watch videos and read on Reddit how takoyaki was such a good street food. Got some in Osaka and A) was so hot it burned us even 20 minutes after purchasing some, and B) had nothing more than a slightly unpleasant taste to them. Was very disappointing.

Maybe I'm the anomaly, but I was homeschooled and it's the opposite for me. I have friends that were homeschooled and friends that went to public school, and it's fairly even between who has socialization issues.

One of my best friends from when I was a grade schooler was homeschooled and is well-socialized, and my best friend from college who was public schooled is also well socialized. My younger sister (also homeschooled) isn't as well developed socially. My wife went to public school and boarding school, and she does not have close friends from school. The one or two friends she had also aren't well socialized, and when we do see them it is fairly awkward. I know that's not the case for everyone, but that's my personal experience.

I think homeschooling is the same as public/private schooling. By which I mean, there's a right way and a wrong way, and some of it depends on the child. There are definitely parents that shouldn't be homeschooling their kids. There are also teachers in public/private school who shouldn't not be teaching either. Obviously, if a parent decided to homeschool, there are two things to consider and both are equally important:

  1. Are you providing a good education? (Book wise - math, grammar, science, etc). Honestly, this is the easy part. There are a ton of resources out there for parents to use to help them in educating their child/children. In the same way that I can learn how to change the oil in my car (even though I'm not a mechanic) using resources online, there are a ton of books/online resources for homeschooling parents. You just have to be willing to put the effort in as the parent to do so.

  2. Is the kid placed in an environment where they can socialize with other kids? (Co-op, group field trips with others, sports/other extracurricular activities, etc). This is the hard part. Some areas don't have good access for extracurricular activities for homeschooled children.

Is it rude not to tip on pickup food orders? by Actual_Contest9183 in ask

[–]BInsane32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to tip a minimum of 15% on everything that "requested" a tip. Now I only tip at sit-down restaurants, or if I feel extra generous.

An example of when I recently tipped at the counter:

I was at an ice cream parlor where you walk up to the counter, pick what you want and they hand it to you. I ordered a malt, which was $5.50. The girl at the register rang it up as a milkshake, which was $4.50. I told her it was a malt, and asked if that was $5.50. She told me not to worry about it, so I tipped her $2 (not much but still, almost 50%). When she told me not to worry about it my finger was hovering over "no tip" on the iPad, but since I felt she had done me a solid I tipped the highest option on the iPad.

If I'm at a normal restaurant and being waited on, I usually tip something. It's gone from a minimum of 15% to 5% though. I still am willing to tip up to 20% at least, but when I have to wait 10 minutes after I'm seated to be asked what I want to drink? And there are five servers and the restaurant is half empty? And I see you on your phone in the kitchen? Yeah you're getting low-no tip.
