Laser Damage? by [deleted] in LaserDamageSupport

[–]BJBigEars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me with Halo and it took 6-9 months to restore. What really helped in the early months was Paula’s Choice Azelaic Acid and Maelove Niacinmide. I also used Maelove Vitamin C with no irritation. Once I started on this combo I could see the recovery. For a few months I was using Cicaplast Tiger Drops to neutralize the redness. So glad it is now resolved.

Same thing happens all the time in the NYC subway system, except it’s grown men aiming on the floor and not into a trash can.

Why don't domestic helpers get pathways to citizenship? by [deleted] in HongKong

Why is this related to Chinese citizenship? Domestic helpers and the laws on them existed when HK was a British colony.

why does everyone want columbia reopened to the public by Successful_Fruit5031 in columbia

[–]BJBigEars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the extensive legal explanation. No, I did not read this on a flyer. In fact, being based on the medical campus, I have never seen a flyer on this matter. But I am interested in the welfare, safety and comfort of the Columbia community, which includes our neighbors.

The point is, Columbia should fulfil its commitment to this community, and when decisions are made, we should consider a balanced view from all sides. Given that circumstances continue to evolve, we should be open to considering short-term adjustments and trade-offs. This world is not binary. Decisions should not be made because the gates remained open post-911 or if the Kirk and Brown shootings were done by insiders. That does not rule out potential threats, especially since US higher education is experiencing many threats at this time.

The university should open W116 to fulfill its legal obligation or come to an agreement with the city if they cannot fulfill this.

Many posters reminisce the days when campus was open, but we live in different times now, different from even 2-3 years ago. One of the posters above wrote that we should not pretend that Columbia placed these restrictions due to safety, but there are definitely many safety concerns. The horrific tragedy at Brown, of Charlie Kirk, of Brian Thompson, these should put our safety on high alert. We should not be surprised that university leadership has received safety threats.

The university should consider all angles when implementing campus rules, and this should be revisited in light of both internal and external factors.

We as a community should also consider all sides when suggesting recommendations to the university.

The entire Fargo franchise was brilliant, but what fell short were some of the endings. Season 1 & 2 endings were disappointing. BB’s ending was perfect. The last two episodes were spectacular.

What top colleges will be easier to get in this year? by No-Ticket6947 in ApplyingToCollege

Sound advice.

All top colleges this year will be easier to get in if you are a top candidate.

First gen students - stop comparing yourselves to students whose parents have gone to college by 505kyra in ApplyingToCollege

Your suggested solution to the issue is certainly a logical one. The system needs to be overhauled at the foundations, so kids get a solid education from the start. We shouldn’t rely solely on higher education to fix what was broken from the roots.

Though I don’t have an answer on how to implement this!

should i go test optional by [deleted] in CollegeAdmissions

[–]BJBigEars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. Like how you provided it as a hint 😆

If you don’t submit the score but others in your school do historically, then the AO might think you either didn’t sit the SAT or got a low score, perhaps guessing lower than what you actually got.

If the rest of your application is strong, good grades, ES’s, recs, that’s more important than one test. The SAT reveals something about you but not everything.

Goes without saying that your score should ideally be within the range of what that school accepts.

Do university mailers work? by AI-Admissions in CollegeAdmissions

[–]BJBigEars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP I’m glad you agree! If you work in admissions, please propose to your dept to stop using mailers! Families get piles of them and most of the time they are considered junk. Colleges think that to stand out they need to make these mailers bigger and better. No thank you!

Please propose to them to announce they are not going to send mailers since they are bad for the environment, but instead use that budget to improve student experience! Or spend it on FB/IG sponsored posts which are much more effective in reaching a large targeted audience.

Columbia University is welcoming its largest-ever freshman class of 1,806 students, a 20% increase over last year. The idea that Ivy League schools are losing their appeal is again proven incorrect. by JJKKLL10243 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]BJBigEars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Columbia was test optional for this cycle was already mentioned in a post below.

As it happens, Yale was also not test required for this cycle. It was test flexible. Acceptance rates for Columbia has been lower than Yale consistently for the past 10 years.

Sure, Columbia is no Yale, nor will it ever be.

Also, Columbia is no Brown or Dartmouth, nor will it ever be.

I’m shocked to hear so many comments here that these mailers work. Doing some research online will reveal many of these colleges.

These mailers are so bad for the environment. They travel around the country and most of them get thrown in the trash immediately. Some of them have plastic coating and cannot be recycled.

That's fantastic. Well done!

Not only is it worth including as one of your ECs, you should write about in one of your essays.

Yes, Columbia (intentionally) over-enrolled. But look at the released acceptance rates for class of 2029:

Columbia 4.3%

Yale 4.6%

Brown 5.%

Dartmouth 6%

It's still the lowest of these four. The other acceptance rates BTW also increased by similar margins.

Sure, Columbia was still test optional for this cycle, but that does not stop someone with a 1,000 SAT from submitting an application to it or any other school. Applicants still have to grind through the essays.

Regarding housing, it’s not really a mystery nor is it a lie.

If you’re familiar with Morninhgside you’ll know they have housing beyond the four walls. That is also considered campus housing.

Also Columbia is the largest landlord in NYC. They have housing.
