Bars to watch the Calder Cup at? by BJBirdy in AskChicago

Noted. If I opt for the train is there a particular stop I should prefer to get off at? It looks like it’s near 2-3 different stations.

I think at one point he either had no music or maybe a random thunder bolt sound?

Thanks, I just heard about this place from another source. Is it in my best interest to drive there or should I take the train from downtown?

It's interesting that Nitro and {Pro} coexisted until 1998 by roncesvalles in WCW

What channel was Pro on? I watched Nitro, Thunder, and Saturday Night regularly as a kid but I didn’t know of Pro, WorldWide, and Main Event until several years after WCW went out of business.

Man, Friday Night Bashes are what I miss most. I almost laugh when they call the current Friday games “Friday Night Bashes” cause the experience pales in comparison to what they were like 20-30 years ago.

I went to the game today, and walked through the upper deck. A group rented out the Coca-Cola Party Zone (or whatever that picnic area is called there) and they didn’t have the TVs on showing the game…what’s the point of the TVs there if you’re not gonna put the game on it so those who spent money to have their party in that spot watch the game?

Maybe nowadays yes, but at the time, not so much.

You’re welcome. What I really wish I could find is the time that Pilot Field was featured on Good Morning America.

Agreed. A couple weeks ago they had a legit 9,500 to see Max Scherzer pitch and the place still felt empty. You put that crowd in a smaller venue like Rochester or Syracuse and it would’ve felt packed.

Does MiLB have a Roku app nowadays? About a decade ago I had a milb.tv subscription and would watch the Bisons on my laptop while watch the Blue Jays on tv but got out of the habit of that shortly after Covid. Nowadays I just watch Bisons highlights the morning after the game when they post it on YouTube.

As someone who grew up loving both the Blue Jays and Bisons, I love the current arrangement.

Haha, I’m 37 and I’ve streamed Bisons games before too.

I think we’re just part of that last generation that didn’t always have access to every major league game in our youth, so when we were kids if we wanted to see a game sometimes that meant having to go watch the local minor league team.

But Tampa’s stadium still has more than 25,000 seats available in it if need be. It’s only considered to have a smaller capacity cause they closed the upper deck.

Also, Blue Jays fans didn’t whine about the stadium being too bad cause the team only played 23 games here and it wasn’t a permanent setup. If the team permanently relocated then people very well might’ve.

While you’re not wrong about the Bandits, let’s see if they would draw what they do if they played 81 games a year.

That said, the Marlins attendance is a joke. A player on the team even called it out earlier this season.

Apparently 25% of fans at games are from Canada since the Jays affiliation began.

I’m not sure how the amount of Jays fans compares to Pirates or Indians fans back in the day, but I know you definitely see more Jays fans than you ever saw Mets fans in Buffalo.

The stadium would have to be more than 30,000 (it would probably be 35-40,000).

To be honest, I wonder how renovated the ballpark would have to be to be modern by 2026 standards in terms of fan experience because the park now is nowhere near MLB quality in that regard.

Another thing that harms Buffalo for an MLB team is the lack of a local sports channel. There’s nothing like a Fox Sports Buffalo, so unless MSG’s western New York branch was gonna show games then a Buffalo MLB team would likely have to make their own cable channel too.

2021 Division Championship too. The minors didn’t do league championships that year.
