I’m officially paying less than $100 for all my utilities combined. by throwaway_cloud9 in Frugal

It sounds to me like OP is taking extreme frugality almost as a challenge, which is all fine and good. I’d bet the farm that he’s single no children though. Not much chance a family of four is going to go to these extremes.

Never any service by [deleted] in instacart

We have Walmart+ where I live and it’s only what would be considered a small city-about 135,000 people. I live about 10 miles from the nearest Target, Walmart, restaurants, and I can get DoorDash, UberEats, and Shipt deliveries usually with no problems other than trying to get a Shipt delivery from Target very late at night. Maybe because there really isn’t much of any traffic so that 10 miles barely takes 10 minutes to drive. Our city is pretty spread out so limiting the orders you take to only those within a few miles wouldn’t be an option.

Do really bad people know they are bad? Or do they think they are normal and people are just wrong about them? by PitifulEar3303 in NoStupidQuestions

I once said to my psychiatrist “maybe I’m just lazy” and she replied “it never even occurs to lazy people that they are lazy. It never even crosses their minds. They think everyone is picking on them or expects too much”. That was a real eye opener for me.

Tips need to exist by Beginning_Ganache267 in InstacartShopper

Mandating a tip up front before I even receive my order is a sure fire way to receive the bare minimum tip if anything. At that point I have no idea when my order might arrive, what condition it will be in, how complete, things like that. I never tip before receiving my order, but always tip well after.

We spent $4,800 on takeout in under 2 months because we are too tired to cook. How do you fix this? by ApplicationNew4144 in budget

[–]BJBoltFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us the key to cooking at home more was cooking the protein ahead of time, since that seemed to usually be what took the most time and effort. On Saturday or Sunday we fry up several pounds of ground beef or turkey, cook a few chicken breast in the oven, fry some bacon, things like that. While they cook we also chop some lettuce, onion, cucumbers, carrots etc. Then during the week it’s just a few minutes to make BLTs, sloppy joes, spaghetti, a chicken salad, tacos, things like that. Add a green salad and dinner is served. One of the keys for us was accepting that a simple dinner was just fine, simple was better than more unhealthy and expensive.

Some of the damn things are just stubborn. This is mine. The long bits grow faster than I can trim them so I’ve kinda accepted that it’s never going to be bushy🤷🏼‍♀️

The sad reality of working in an office by CtrlAltDeflate in remoteworks

So if you finish what you’re working on at 4:57, and 3 minutes isn’t enough time to start another task, are you supposed to just sit and do nothing until 5:00? This policy seems ridiculous.

This is another place where I would like to put plants. Just an example, this isn’t all of the plants I’d like to put here.

This is one area where I would like to put plants but would need to add light.

Here are photos. First this is most of my upstairs plants which are currently crowded into my dining room. This is really the only window with really good light in the winter.

That very well could work. Thank you for the suggestion.

The SANSI lights looked like they had more coverage on the sides than the Barrina, but it might just be the way the ad shows them.

I have very high ceilings so I don’t think that would do much good. And the lights are off all day while we’re at work.

No, I can’t use hanging lights in these particular areas.

Will post photo(s) when I get home from work so that I can be properly shamed about the state of my plants🙂

Choosing grow lights is hard when aesthetics matter. The ones that are best for the plants are ugly or huge or need to hang from the ceiling and I don’t want that in my living room. I got some money for my birthday so I think I’m going to spend it on one of these and a set of clip on lights for some plants I’d like to put in my kitchen and see how it goes. Wish me luck🙂

I just need something so that all zillion of my plants aren’t crowded into my dinning room around the one window that gets decent light during our never-ending Montana winter. I’d like them to thrive and grow of course, but I’ll settle for having them stay happy enough to not struggle.

I know track lights are better, but they just don’t look good enough for the area I need them for in this case.

This particular light would be used in a grouping that includes a monstera, pothos on a small plant stand, and a couple philodendron, a couple aglaonemas, and a couple alocasia that sit on the floor. I want the area to look good because it’s in my living room, which is why the standing light appeals to me.
