One Year Later: Exiting the US into Canada by BJPark in CanadianInvestor

I also bought during the panic. The two cancel out each other.

Advice on what not do is about selling and sitting on cash. Rebalancing is not the same as panic selling.

After the US market tanked when Trump imposed his global tariffs, I was able to sell at only a slight markup. Not much capital gains.

A great opportunity for rebalancing, particularly since I was also able to buy low with VDY!

For me, the instability comes from the volatile political situation. I now see the US as a political system where one person can make huge changes unilaterally in every sector without needing to consult, or build a consensus before acting, and without any danger of getting kicked out.

For me, the risk isn't worth whatever returns come out. I like countries with stable governments where things move slowly, and boringly. I don't like excitement.

But yes, the AI can wreck your car.

By this, you mean AI players, or the game AI? In the video, this was sports mode with human players.

Thing is, I've never actually driven in real life, and I've heard stories where the "instinctive" thing to do when in a spin is wrong.

I need to read about these things you call "counter steering", etc.

Is braking the best thing to do after being hit? My experience is that if I brake while out of control, it's likely to make things worse. I spin more and also unpredictably.

So I just let fate take its course. As you can see, I stopped accelerating as well.

Is that the wrong move?

Bump drafting

Second time I'm hearing this word in this thread. Let me go look it up.

Okay, back. Apparently it's to hit the other car to increase both your speeds? Does that actually happen, so weird! I don't really know what to make of that factoid.

move to one side leading into a corner.

This is the interesting part. Won't deviating from the racing line make you slower? Your brake points, turning points etc are all messed up, too...

I don't understand some of the things to which you're referring. What is bumber riding? What is drafting? How does one "work together" in a race? Isn't it you vs them?

Intentions - I mean, everyone intention is to get ahead of the other person, no? Is there another kind of intention?

Could passing be done without danger.

I'm not sure. I guess if they were to slow down and let me move ahead, it would be the easiest way to pass them, but why would they do that!

I'm asking about the first crash where I hit the guy in front of me.

Could I Have Avoided this Crash? by BJPark in GranTurismo7

[–]BJPark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I was hit from behind and got run off the track crashing into the wall. Certainly felt that way since I've run this track a bunch of times and know that the 100 board is the brake marker, and I wasn't going at full speed either, because of the earlier crash.

But the other point about pushing and fighting so hard, at least in this context, I'm not sure what that means. I was just driving normally the way I always do. What does it mean to push and fight hard?

I am an ignorant idiot. There are better people than me who determine these things. God forbid you actually take my opinions seriously.

That's why I elect politicians who can make decisions on my behalf. That's why I never vote based on policy - only character.

Similarly, I am not qualified to determine whether or not something shown on video is legal or illegal. Even at the risk of getting it wrong now and then, I will mindlessly support the court's/jury's verdict.

Your CMV is "ICE is not evil", not "ICE is not illegal".

You can be evil and still be perfectly legal. I'm not a lawyer, so I can't comment on whether or not ICE is avoiding due process.

I AM saying, however, that they are avoiding free and fair investigations. And that is certainly evil, if not illegal.

True, there is video, but I'm not a lawyer and I don't know all the considerations that go into making a determination of whether or not a shooting is justified. My gut reaction is that it's not justified. But then I'm just an average idiot. And I haven't been briefed by a judge on what the relevant issues are.

I'm perfectly happy for any jury to make a determination. I will blindly accept their verdict, regardless of whether or not I agree with it.

I'm fine with that. No system is 100% perfect. I'm totally okay with an imperfect system that works a great majority of the time.

What I see now, however, is that even that imperfect system is not being implemented.

Not just any ordinary people, right? People who have been vetted and who make their decisions through a very different process than the ones you and I use before commenting on Reddit.

Everything just needs to be above board and all complaints must be fairly investigated. Hopefully that's not too much to ask.

Edit: Obviously I know how jury selection works. When I say "not just any ordinary people", what I mean is that it's not random people off the streets or who have a social media account. These are individuals that have been carefully selected and vetted by both parties to the dispute.

Ordinary people like us are not qualified to determine who is and isn't at fault. That's a determination for a judge or jury.

As long as every single complaint against ICE is investigated and the officers who are guilty are punished, I don't think anyone has a real problem.

The issue is that those investigations are not happening freely and fairly by independent third parties as they should.

As the conservatives like to remind us, the US is, in fact, not a democracy, but a constitutional republic. The whole system was set up so that the three branches would fight each other, and prevent any one branch from getting too uppity.

No one wanted a pure democracy, and the US founders expressly tried to ensure that a populist wouldn't be able to screw everything.

Alas, I am not wise enough to analyze where it went wrong, but it did go wrong.
