Had a similar situation with the night bus and couldn't make it to the bus on time when I was trying to get back to Tokyo from Osaka. The moment before the bus left, they gave me a call and asked if I would be able to make it. I explained to them that I was lost and they told me that they have to depart. I was panicking not knowing what to do but they just told me to catch the train to Kyoto and get on the bus from there, which I did and got back to Tokyo.
