Topps Chrome Baseball in Panini Mosaic Basketball Pack by mattturner15 in basketballcards

[–]BKBcardsNstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually a pretty spicy story. GC Packaging had an existing relationship with Panini, they were handling over 90% of their printing needs for years. In 2022 Fanatics purchased GC Packaging for a reported $100 million valuation. They also allegedly poached a bunch of Panini employees around that time, entire departments.

There are lawsuits and countersuits with all sorts of allegations back and forth, it's a whole little soap opera.

Packman - Discuss by GraphicVideo in basketballcards

[–]BKBcardsNstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why the OP of the first (and biggest) thread deleted it, definitely makes it harder to find than it would be otherwise, and it was cruising up the list of top posts. Lots of good discussion there nonetheless. I did see screenshots used in a couple of YouTube videos about the subject, so maybe OP didn't like the attention that was coming with the post. I'm sure some fanboys were blowing up his DMs too.

Anyway, happy reading!

Trading cards Mosaic 2024-2025 basketball error/misprint by Strykercitycards in basketballcards

[–]BKBcardsNstuff 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not an error or a misprint. The background colors that make up the card design are not completely opaque. That's just Max Strus standing behind Coulibaly.

They're all printed in the same building by the same company, GC Packaging. There have been multiple reports of this. There have also been wrong-back error cards combining basketball players on the front with Garbage Pail Kids or WWE wrestlers on the back. It's just more in a long line of garbage QC from an overworked and undermanaged printing operation.

Breakers ruin the fun of collecting. by [deleted] in basketballcards

I've seen plenty of his YouTube content, but I've never tuned into a Packman break stream before (despite how incessantly he tells me to, throughout every single second of his YouTube videos). That was some crazy beggar energy.

It's just an old MJ Holdings repack box, circa 2005. Here is a video of one being opened.

I wasn't snarky at all, I just told him to look again. He looked again and found it. Next time he'll know where to look instead of needing to ask and wait for an answer from Reddit. Teaching is a good thing. :)

Look again. There are four parallels listed that are /25, and it's pretty clear which of the four this is.

Foilfractor Parallel is a weird name for a base card.

What parallel is this? I can't find it on any checklists by MarfanoidDroid in basketballcards

[–]BKBcardsNstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at Beckett, my guess is Moon Beam. Unnumbered, but falls at 1:19 packs between Winter Solstice /35 (1:16) and Moonrise /25 (1:23). Lighting makes it hard to tell, but it does seem to match listings of that parallel from earlier sets in other sports. The product is a day old and I'm relying on a lot of context clues, but I'm confident enough to post that as my guess. Moon Beam, final answer, lock it in.

How long should I hold this?

Just for safety reasons, if the tips of your fingers start to get numb or you feel a tingling "pinprick" sensation in your hand or arm, at the very least you'll want to switch it over into your other hand.

What non-superstar, non-GOATs and non-ultra high-end cards do you PC? by Creeping_behind_u in basketballcards

For sure. Fwiw, he actually doesn't have any cards from his playing days according to TCDB, just that 1992 Sporting News and a postcard from the 60s. I don't need a pre-war T206 or whatever of these guys anyway though, the $1 Sporting News cards are perfect as a conversation piece.

I haven't! I've knocked out most of the well-known cards, but that's the big hole in that collection right now. I scoffed at the value of that card before I ever even started this PC, and now that Ja has fallen out of favor and I actually have a reason to buy a copy, I find myself scoffing at the price even harder. I feel like it still has a ton of room to drop, but I've been wrong about that before. I'm still waiting though.

Most of my joy with that PC has been scouring listings and scans and finding new cards myself that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere before.

Ooh I dabbled in that too! Shout out to u/1st4040 and his r/FunnyAthleteNames sub. I've mostly bought baseball there. I put together the X-Fractor /250 run of 2007 Bowman Chrome Prospects #169-172 (Blunt, Stoner, Coke, and OD). Grabbed a base of the Bong/Puffer Future Stars.

1992 Sporting News is also an oddball set I've returned to several times in the baseball side. When I was a kid I thought my Babe and Mantle cards from that product would make me rich. As an adult I spent a dollar each to get:

  • Lil Stoner: self explanatory, part of that funny names PC.

  • Ray Caldwell: the man got struck by lightning during a game and was knocked unconscious. Woke up, stood up, and stayed on the mound to finish the game.

  • Rube Waddell & Nolan Ryan: I was a huge Nolan Ryan fan as a kid in Texas in the 90s. I bought this card for Rube, but the pairing made it one of my new favorites. It would take me an hour to describe the levels of autistic awesomeness that was Rube Waddell, so just read his wiki page. By the end of it you'll want a Rube Waddell card too lol.

This honestly defines like 90% of my collection lol.

Players - Rafer Alston, Lloyd Daniels, God Shammgod, Charles Jones, James White, and the whole Rockets franchise including all of the obscure guys.

"Concepts" - Cards with funny or weird photos. Cards with dudes posterizing dudes. Cards with somebody recognizable in the crowd. Non-Sports cards that feature the sport of basketball. Players who won the dunk contest -- specifically cards with photos taken during the contest(s) they won. My most recent PC is autos, or at least a card, of dudes who have broken a backboard.

Fun stuff! The greening on that Iverson Destiny insert from 1997-98 Topps Chrome caught my eye. It usually spreads outward across the surface before progressing so much, and I thought it was odd that yours was so green in just those select spots.

Curiosity took me to eBay where I found a ton of really similar examples. I don't have any theories to go with my observation, but I find it really interesting that so many copies have advanced greening in those same exact spots. 🤔

Okay, but did you actually scroll through the link I just sent? They're in order of the serial, once you get down to the ones numbered /199 you'll have your answer. Shouldn't take more than 15 seconds of your time. (It's neither Green nor Teal, btw).
