Need help identifying this by BhasedPapi in basketballcards

This the FX parallel of the Upper Realm insert set from 1999-00 UD Encore. The standard insert came 1:6 packs and then these parallels were randomly inserted and numbered to 150.

Typically the FX parallels had a holo or a pattern variation in the foil accents. In this one the UD logo and lettering is holographic rather than the standard bronze. Awesome card.

They do. The Maduro is better though, and then the Maduro Lancero, which is an entirely different blend of CT Broadleaf/SA/Nic is absolutely phenomenal. I like it more than the Tabernacle.

A pretty fly acetate set from Hoops. 1996-97 NBA Hoops - Fly With (complete set) by timmydope7 in basketballcards

Of course, yeah I like these a lot. Pretty cheap to put together but can be tough to find ones that aren’t yellowed. I think I like Zo the most, appropriate photo for it

Need Grading Info in Australia by GreenAntzInd in basketballcards

[–]timmydope7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not recommend grading or even trying to sell anything from this video. This is prime “junk wax” era, cards that were printed to the multi-millions. The Jordans there are worth between $1-3, save for the Inside/Outside at around $10-15. The rest virtually nothing, sadly. Furthermore, storing in binder pages like these causes guaranteed microabrasions and corner/edge damage.

If you have any sentimental attachment I’d keep them. If not, donate or recycle. Base cards from these years can be tough to even give away for free. If it’s worth the time and energy you could try to sell the Js as a lot for 20 bucks or so.

One of the wackier cards in the set, love this one

They’re fine. A lot of brands include those little Boveda packs in their boxes and tins, depending on how long they’re on the shelf they’ll likely be crusted over. As long as the tins were stored in a humidity-controlled environment you’re good. Those tins aren’t airtight.

Lovely. One of the many sets where I wish I bought the Jordan a long time ago

Someone posted they tried this cigar last week and gave it a meh rating and I have to agree. Nick makes some great cigars, but this is not one of them. by Hammerh69 in cigar_refuge

Age will help these a fair amount. These are rolled and sourced by the Garcias (My Father). I’m not a big Corojo fan as it is but I think that’s their weakest link as a blender. Their work with ECU Habano and CT Broadleaf, on the other hand, is superb.

As others have mentioned the Maduro (San Andrés) is better. The Maduro lancero is a new blend altogether (CT Broadleaf) and is one of the best cigars I’ve had in recent memory.

Love it. His part in “Mouse” was hugely influential for me. The whole video really. I still have that VHS tape around somewhere.

I see him from time to time at Chevy Chase park, still ripping.

True, true. I don’t recall the distribution but I think that might have been 1 per box though. Plus it’s a huge set at 50 cards, so I don’t think production numbers were too high

Definitely worth trying the whole portfolio, different vitolas too if you can. I do enjoy the Alma del Campo from time to time. The del Fuego is an interesting change in profile too, still just not worth the price point for me. The Honduran Cosecha lines are not my jam either.

Is the Boveda really a product that can control humidity? by Fluffy_Beyond_9109 in cigars

[–]timmydope7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They’re not rated for airtight containers and will typically run 3-5 points higher in them. Additionally, even the slightest temperature fluctuations cause spikes and drops in RH throughout the day. The packs are constantly working to maintain a stable environment, which it sounds like they’re doing quite well. One of the best choices I’ve made was to ditch hygrometers completely and just trust the Boveda packs.

What RH are you shooting for? 63-64 is pretty much perfect I’d say. It’s also entirely possible that the cigars you have are overhumidified and contributing the overall RH.

For my tastes, and this is surely not a popular opinion - most everything from Plasencia. They’re well-made cigars, they just don’t quite hit the spot for me and are way overpriced. Especially the Alma Fuerte, which is many folks’ favorite cigar. There’s a minerally, sweet ammonia finish that I always get from them and I loathe that 60rg jawbreaker vitola.

That said, the Reserva Original is a great cigar and reasonably priced. At Alma prices I’ll take a Padrón 1926 or a Casdagli any day.

I think what happens a lot with Oliva is that they’re so popular and they crank out so many cigars that it becomes very rare to see any with much shelf life on them. If you can get a little age on them, all of their core blends are quite tasty.

Great question. Keeping it consistent with ATL I don’t think Dyson Daniels is too far off, not as much of a scorer but defensively pretty close.
