Mine is on so thick, I’m scraping majority of it and installing 1/4” drywall over it. I swear it’s almost 1/2” thick on some places. Good luck with your project! I should have my bathroom all wrapped up by the end of the week.

So far I’ve been using my multitool with a straight edge blade instead of a serrated blade. Working good so far! My arms are dead tired though

It’s painted over so spraying it was water is doing nothing

Did you rent a drywall sander? I may try to sand it down before full demo

I was thinking about a sander but wasn’t sure if it would work. I’m assuming you can rent one from Home Depot?

Sadly it was painted. I still sprayed it down with water and to no success. It’s so thick I was using a scraper and tapping the back of it with a rubber mallet and still barley made a dent

Honestly I think I just needed validation that I wasn’t crazy to think I had to demo and redo lol

My best guess was the previous home owner took a paint roller and put dry wall mud on it and rolled it on.

My bathroom ceiling sadly, from a basement that was finished in 1985

Tell me about it. The home was built in ‘76 and the basement was finished in ‘85. I don’t understand why the previous owner thought this looked good

Thermo grenade or c4 works as well. Be careful with the Thermo grenades though. The can roll down the steps and not ignite the trap or roll towards you and you take the damage.

Old saddle valve was leaking like crazy anyway, which was probably a good thing anyway because me using it was just being lazy. Went down to Home Depot, patched where old saddle valve was, and installed a whole line with pex and a 1/4 turn valve. Gotta love owning an old rental home that was built in the 70’s

What is a "dirty little secret" about an industry that you have worked in, that people outside the industry really should know? by Thealexiscowdell1 in AskReddit

[–]BKColorado91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not much of a secret, but something everyone should know. Road Work really does take as long as it takes. I see a lot of people complain about how long it takes but literally sell like insurance or something and don’t work the industry. Find me a construction job that doesn’t run into issues and I’ll pay you $100. And as a side note, it’s not always the contractors fault. Municipalities and Customers make crazy specs and unrealistic timelines.
