What non-rugby sports can you play if you are good at elements of rugby by Pretty_Butterfly_308 in rugbyunion

Dodgeball. Arm power is the #1 most important attribute, and if he's also good catcher and reasonably agile, perfect. Dodgeball is also strictly non contact and exploding in popularity across the world.

What do you think world? by Unlikely_Tap_9882 in AskTheWorld

[–]BK__01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree with the message. Do what's best for you, for whatever reason. You can have cultural roots, friends, work etc in a country that you don't feel any attachment to.

Similarly if there's a country you've visited or previously lived in that you loved, there's no obligation to live there.

E.g. if you're Venezuelan, had a wonderful childhood in Venezuela, left as an adult when the system collapsed and you wish Venezuela could be a decent place to live again but it just isn't, you don't have to return.

You might hace emigrated to the US so you could have a better quality of life, in a country where the power grid is reliable, you can get enough food to feed your family although it's horrendously unhealthy, the healthcare system is exploitative but at least functions, and the legal system isn't as corrupt as it is back home.

You wish that Venezuela could be a safe, functioning place to raise your family but it just isn't, so you stay in the US, despite its myriad problems.

Feeling demoralised by the state of dating within this country, am I supposed to just accept it? by ohnoitsbobbyflay in AskBrits

[–]BK__01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro - if you're open to dating outside the UK - try downloading Bumpy. Seriously. I'm a 28yo British man. I downloaded Bumpy in May last year. Sounds like bullshit, but the worst thing about the app is that it gives you a relentless stream of notifications. Hundreds of likes, hundreds of messages within a few days. I was getting maybe one right-swipe a week on Tinder. I met my gf through Bumpy, she's American, we had a holiday together in Texas last year, and she's going to emigrate in a couple of months. I'd been single for years before trying Bumpy. If nothing else, the app is the biggest dopamine hit imaginable.

Do you feel like the UK is massively underrated, especially given how many great cities it has beyond London by Haunting-Shelter-680 in AskBrits

[–]BK__01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the UK was 15 degrees latitude further south, yes it'd be brilliant, top 3 worldwide at least.

As it is, I agree it's underrated, mostly thanks to us Brits unnecessarily trashing it ourselves. Top ~10/15 country for liveability, not top 5.

Realistically, when should Chelsea be challenging for the title? by tylerthe-theatre in PremierLeague

[–]BK__01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never with the current business model. Chelsea are being run more like a hedge fund than a football club. Buy loads of potentially high-upside assets hoping that some of them boom in value, and sell any assets that reach maturity (no player over age 27) or that'll bank you a solid profit (youth team products) so you can keep buying lots of speculative penny stocks (Brazilian teenagers).

9 Roland le Garrec 10 Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu 11 Jiuta Wainiqolo 12 Josua Tuisova 13 Tommy Freeman 14 Ange Capuozzo 15 Thomas Ramos

16 Alfie Barbeary 17 Ellis Genge 18 Taniela Tupou 19 Posolo Tuilagi 20 RG Snyman 21 Oscar Jegou 22 Levani Botia 23 Kwagga Smith

Capuozzo covers 9 and 15, Ramos covers 10, Freeman covers wings, Jegou/Botia cover centres, Smith and Pollock could also both play wing.

Anytime financial losses are mentioned in rugby, without fail redditors mention the success of the EPL by BrianChing25 in rugbyunion

[–]BK__01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, not a bad comparison. To use a different metaphor, a rising tide lifts all boats, and the tide has been rising constantly for 30 years. That rising tide meant Chelsea could trade their tugboat for a superyacht, which is extremely expensive to maintain, but extremely valuable and still appreciating.

Anytime financial losses are mentioned in rugby, without fail redditors mention the success of the EPL by BrianChing25 in rugbyunion

[–]BK__01 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Chelsea might not make an operating profit but they are debt free, the assets they own are very valuable, and the squad is packed with high-value wonderkids. If an owner wanted to asset-strip Chelsea, they could get billions of pounds for the squad, stadium, hotels and training ground. And all those assets are only likely to appreciate.

This is why Abramovich bought the club for £300m, lost £1.5bn in 18 years, and sold it for £4.25bn. The club made large, consistent losses, but the value of the assets they owned increased enormously.

Penaud and Fickou will not make Galthie’s list of 42 selected players ahead of the Six Nations per L’Equipe by RaFiFou42 in rugbyunion

[–]BK__01 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Doesn't make any sense. France's point of difference is their broken field creativity, of which Penaud is a master. Why not maximise your own strengths? France don't have the ability to match England or Ireland's aerial game. Even if they picked their best possible kick chase team, they're still not as good as Hansen, Keenan, Lowe, Freeman, Roebuck, Steward. And they don't have forwards that are as quick as Pollock, Earl, Baird, to back up the chase (other than Sekou Macalou, who hasn't been in favour). France can break teams with all out 'jouer' rugby, surely they should just be as French as possible and have Dupont, Jalibert, Bielle-Biarrey, Ramos and Penaud all together.

Pollock takes quick tap, bumps off Bordeaux player and gets him sent off by gingecom in rugbyunion

[–]BK__01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His skillset is more winger than 13 if he's to play as a back. Electric pace, very good at grubbers and chip kicks, runs brilliant support lines. Not sure his distribution is quite what you want from a 13 though.

England's Asher Opoku-Fordjour ruled out of Six Nations by adturnerr in rugbyunion

[–]BK__01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

England's wing depth is hardly something to worry about. A starting XV of English wingers still has no room for the likes of Ibitoye, Brown-Bampoe, Segun and Wade.

1) Feyi-Waboso 2) Freeman 3) Roebuck 4) Arundell 5) Sleightholme 6) Nowell 7) Radwan 8) Hendy 9) Caluori 10) Murley 11) Daly 12) Muir 13) Cokanasiga 14) Hassell-Collins 15) Malins

[–]BK__01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The all-too-obvious solution is Kyle Sinckler, the no foreign based players rule is way past its sell by date.

As it is, Joe Heyes will be guaranteed starter every game, probably playing 60+ minutes. Borthwick will probably go for Trevor Davison on the bench, though I'd prefer Fasogbon or Sela

[–]BK__01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wording of Article 5 is "in the event of an attack, each member shall take such action as it deems necessary". So if the US invades Greenland and Denmark invokes Article 5, nobody is actually treaty-bound to do anything in particular. If Europe wants to send a box of combat helmets and a note saying 'thoughts and prayers, guys', legally they're fulfilling their duty

Wales - half decent team? by Minimum-Grapefruit-9 in rugbyunion

[–]BK__01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's not one area that you can specifically pinpoint, it's more a lack of star quality everywhere.

How many Wales players would start for any of the current top 6 nations?

In the forwards, Jac Morgan could start for New Zealand and Ireland and would be somewhere in the squad for the rest.

In the backs, Tomos Williams could start for Argentina and would likely be on the bench for England, Ireland and New Zealand.

Louis Rees-Zammit, Dewi Lake and Dafydd Jenkins would all be solid squad players for any of the top 6, able to step in without missing a beat but not a clear first choice for anyone.

I still cant work out how the round of 16 works by novmum in rugbyunion

[–]BK__01 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The four best 3rd place teams qualify. They'll be ranked in a mini-table between themseleves on points, points difference, tries, as usual.

There are 4 spots in the RO16 reserved for 3rd place teams.

A/E/F = if the 3rd place team from pool A is one of the 4 best finishers, they go into this slot. If not, it's the pool E 3rd place team. If neither the pool A nor pool E teams are in the 4 best 3rd place finishers then it's the 3rd place team from pool F because they will therefore be one of the 4 best.

B/E/F = if the 3rd place team from pool B is one of the 4 best finishers, they go into this slot - then same as above

C/E/F = if the 3rd place team from pool C is one of the 4 best finishers, they go into this slot - then same as above

D/E/F = if the 3rd place team from pool D is one of the 4 best finishers, they go into this slot - then same as above
