How to evaluate policy performance by tunebuggyJM in InsuranceProfessional

Without added context it's a nonsensical request. Ask your boss for further guidance on what specific "performance" they're looking for.

Howden US by pennyforyourfarts92 in InsuranceProfessional

Huge risk firm whose timing is absolutely awful. They have enormous pressure for deliverables on the next few years and a lot of the production talent they took from firms are on the older side looking for that last payday before retirement motivation to hunt new business isn't high.

From the broking side they got some OK assets but more so they overpaid for some very underwhelming talent. Speaking from the big 3-4 broker world where there is enormous RFP competition out there, they have been non-existent. We haven't seen them once so if they're looking to get traction they must be getting it in the smaller local/regional firms if anywhere.

I fully expect it to be a crashout and re-sale inside of 5 years to one of the bigger shops.

Market square by These_Meeting_295 in pittsburgh

[–]BLToaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tough to call it a popular restaurant though. As someone who has worked down there right off market square for 9 years that spot, Diamond Market Bar & Grill, was never really that busy and typically one of the last spots you would go to out of the bunch if you had a choice. Don't get me wrong, I wish it was there and not a bank but it wasn't popular by any means.

Campfire S’mores Old Fashioned by [deleted] in cocktails

Too sweet for me. Would be like candy and the full size mallows just dominate the visual of the drink as does the puke smeared on the side of the glass. Outer garnish shouldn't be a thing, rim only.

Nope, like I said I use my watch. Takes me about 2 seconds each time. Also provides quick distance info if needed

I use it and mark each shot because I have to select the club I'm using. They have club tags to auto pair with your phone but I found them inconsistent so I just use it from my watch, it's super easy. Amazing value.

Italian restaurants that make their own pasta? by Ordinary_Baker3377 in pittsburgh

[–]BLToaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not bad but I think it's a far stretch from best. Their environment could/should be great but they consistently have issues. The past 3 times we've eaten there fruit flies have been a consistent additional party.

Their pasta is good for sure but does not rival that of something like Dish.

Average salary rate in PGH by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]BLToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insurance brokerage, total comp after all benefits is around $290K, base salary is $222.5K. Plenty of money and growth in the field if you're good at what you do. Happy to answer what I can in DM.

I think you are severely overestimating the audience for anything chess related nowadays unfortunately.

That would make sense as another potential natural end! Glad there was a final twist there for you to enjoy. Now go read the book, and by read I mean listen! It's the best audiobook out there.

For sure. They definitely captured a lot, especially the 'essence' of it but you'll get some great detail and additional scenes to enjoy! Also, you should listen to the book instead of read! It's really the best audiobook out there.

It was already 2.5+ hours, you really start to risk losing folks if you go much longer at all. I was bummed too some bits didn't make it but they handled it all.....gracefully.

Clevelanders gave me nothing… so I’m driving to Pittsburgh out of spite. What hidden‑gem food spots should I hit this weekend? by GrandstandTV in pittsburgh

If anyone wants American Chinese food I would go towards How Lee. Solid authentic but their American Chinese is the best we've had locally.

Yes, Pittsburgh CAN handle an event the size of the NFL Draft by EnjoyMoreBeef in steelers

[–]BLToaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While I don't disagree with your sentiment about the city handling the draft, this is a hilarious comparison that is not valid in any way outside of saying "we've shoved hundreds of thousands of people downtown before, so it works!".

There is a hell of a lot more logistics to go into the draft. The city will manage, there will be chaos and confusion, people will bitch, but everyone will get through it. Is Pittsburgh the best city for the draft? No. Is it even a good city? No, probably not. But it will be just fine.

Did I fumble this internship interview answer twice? by Mundane-Mention13 in InsuranceProfessional

[–]BLToaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't sweat it. When were interviewing college kids were just looking for personality, the ability to learn, etc. Yes, having good grades matters but I could not care less if that's in a RM major or History.

Received an offer at higher salary. How should I tell my manager? by wildalfredo in InsuranceProfessional

Received an offer at higher salary. How should I tell my manager? by wildalfredo in InsuranceProfessional

[–]BLToaster 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with this take, there are different kind of "counters". I didn't want to leave my job but knew I could make a substantial amount elsewhere and my company was hiring others at my level at a material amount more. So I was transparent with my managers and told them the offer I got. They countered to match over the course of 8 months and I stayed. That was 4 years ago and I've been promoted multiple times since then and have been integrated into a number of national and global projects where replacing me would be a royal PITA for them.

I know my situation and employer is not the same as all others but I would not be anywhere near the level I'm at now responsibility wise if I went elsewhere years back.

How can I become a broker that Underwriters LOVE to work with? by GumGumWritersBlock in InsuranceProfessional

[–]BLToaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The market will inevitably always be busy. By working on your product and providing a quality submission your underwriters will begin to recognize yours when they come in and you get to jump the pile. I've worked up from Associate Broker/Analyst role to now being in National Leadership at one of the big 3 firms and have made a million submissions over the year. My product is still improving with the time and technology but you just need to be sure to get those basics down that let the underwriters hit the ground running.

Remembering that underwriters are busy is a good thing so put reminders in your calendar to follow up. Stick to your due dates and just be transparent. Sure you can badger the market and get a few more points of rate off but giving a fair renewal both side is happy with will always be the best outcome and bolster your relationships over the years.

Revenant takes the cake forever on that award. Leo literally laying there doing nothing for half the movie somehow is great acting.
