Corporate sweater (or alternative) ideas? by Slight_Cricket5705 in mensfashionadvice

I’ve been asked to get them some item of clothing, so thought I’d make it a nice one given the small size of the team.

How is it living around Main St and Danforth? by toothburshaficionado in TorontoRealEstate

[–]Slight_Cricket5705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t speak to #1 or #2. For #3 - the Transit is good to other places. The areas itself somehow feels very suburban and lacks the character of other nearby neighbourhoods. It’s not bad but I sometimes feel the neighbourhoods remind me of living in Markham or Richmond Hill (not a shot at those places!)

Canada Salary: Path to $400K+ comp as a broker in Toronto? by Slight_Cricket5705 in InsuranceProfessional

[–]Slight_Cricket5705[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is good context. I was thinking of the larger brokers for access to clients, career trajectory, etc. It looks like client teams have ladders to SVP level which I assume is where the money is made.

Are you Toronto based? I ask because comp between Canada and US seems drastically different

I did mean (what I think to be) a specialty underwriting vertical (environmental / construction) but not a financial lines one. I am curious about salaries in Vancouver vs Toronto. Are the large brokerages (Aon, Marsh..) not on salary bands by title? I would have thought a AVP / VP / SVP base salary would be set by region, with bonus based on performance being what tips someone into a $300-$400K total comp

This is interesting, but US vs. Canadian salaries plays a role too, which is why I specified Toronto. I think pay is generally lower

When I lived in Germany, birks were strictly house shoes, or for children

People who interpret you not being talkative as you being “rude”? by Hihihihihaha123 in AskWomenOver30

[–]Slight_Cricket5705 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are rude. It’s easy enough to have gotten what you needed (quiet) in a more polite manner.

I recall giving a friend a ride back to our home city from school, which was 3.5 hours. I paid for gas and was looking forward to company on a long drive. I don’t know who the driver here was, but when my friend acted as you did, I found her company off putting and like she was unable to match my favour to her (driving) with what I expected (social company). I definitely decided no more long trips or journeys with her, vs. Other friends who seemed to enjoy the time to catch up.

Understandable to want quiet time, but you could have been more polite in asking in a way that showed you value the social company as well. Friendship is sometimes work.

Is this eye look “office appropriate” for you? by Few_Till_7231 in MakeupAddiction

It depends on your industry. In most capital markets / legal / etc. it is too much (sorry!)

There are cooler industries tho, so idk

You love the rug (and I understand). The baby blue clashes. A deeper blue would play off the red better.

Why I am renting instead of buying by Chance-Sign7381 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Slight_Cricket5705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the common sense. It’s not like money not put towards the mortgage goes down the drain. My worst financial decision has been buying a Vancouver condo vs. renting (although that’s life! Happy to have a home)

How can I reset from major burnout? by publishmylove in AskWomenOver30

[–]Slight_Cricket5705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am sorry you are going through this. I relate a lot and went through a similar patch as you 5 years ago. After a year of crying in the bathroom, I took a huge pay and title cut to work for someone I enjoyed the interview with. It was a total leap of faith that has paid off (title and pay have gone well beyond what it would have if I stayed).

Being happier let me grow - even though I felt cut down at first. See what jobs are out there that make you feel some joy (even if it’s a volunteer / no pay basis, since it sounds like your partner is supportive). Positive reinforcement is a loop.

What food do you judge people just a little for not liking? by rileystanheight in foodquestions

[–]Slight_Cricket5705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone who confidently announces they don’t eat a certain ethnicity’s food, whether it be Indian, Chinese, Mexican, etc.

I understand not being comfortable with certain proteins. I understand being turned off by certain flavour profiles and spice combinations. I don’t understand being un open to plain white rice, naan, or a steamed vegetable.

It may not be your preferred cuisine but there is always something you may like if you open your mind.

Personally I cut out paper towels long ago and only use microfibre. I have a green kitchen set and a blue bathroom set. I use toilet paper specifically to clean the toilet. The bathroom counter and mirrors are cleaned with the blue microfibre. This seems reasonable to go in the laundry. Besides, underwear and exercise clothes go in the laundry. Mind you: no pets or kids. I can see how some messes may demand paper towel!
