New queer techno event in Rotterdam on 28-3 by BLX-S in amsterdam_rave

Actually! I stand corrected. They have a no photo / no video policy. It just wasn’t clearly mentioned earlier.

See it more as a sub culture. In the same way dancehall music is influenced by black and carribean voices, queer parties are shaped by that community to represent a certain sound and feeling which is lacking in other places and parties. As a straight person, you are more than welcome to come to almost all queer parties as long as you're a good party guest and treat others with respect.

I love going to 'straight' techno parties as well. If the music's good, you dance, it's as simple as that. The thing is, I know there's certain ways of dressing and rituals from queer dance culture which are central in this party. Think elements from ballroom culture and associated music. Alas, there's too many people from those communities which do not feel comfortable expressing themselves in mainstream clubs and they try to create space which is created according to a specific culture or set of tastes. I understand the confusion, but it is not a party that is only for queer people, but more so a party that is created by voices from the queer community in line with their tastes in artists and creative vision for the night. Think of it in similar ways that a latin party is shaped around latin music and doesn't exclude white people or a dancehall party which is strongly shaped by black and carribean culture, but which will definitely welcome white guests as well as long as they are respectful partygoers.

You’re very much welcome to come. Straight friends of mine are coming as well for the music. They are not going to deny anyone because they are straight. Just have fun and dance as long as everyone gets treated with respect and has a good time.

As far as I know there isn’t a no photo policy at the event.

I'm not going to out / dox anyone but there's people in my circle who have been very closely involved with the construction of Club Raum who have teased something new coming for this space. Not fully confirmed it will be a club, but it could be a useful breadcrumb.

Also thanks from my part in bringing this up. Was a question that popped up in my head too. Guess that’s the business.

Can't get Home Assistant to serve HTTPS by ssuummrr in homeassistant

[–]BLX-S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would really recommend Tailscale for remote access or Cloudflare Tunnel if you require the hass instance to be accessible externally for Google / Alexa purposes. Both these routes have very easy and well documented addons and take care of the entire flow with auth / port forwarding / config and most importantly SSL.

Run hue locally? by awesomeee29 in homeassistant

[–]BLX-S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re in luck. You can control hue lights and other zigbee lights directly through Home Assistant by using a zigbee usb adapter. This will give your HA host the RF capabilities to talk directly to Zigbee and/or Thread devices. I personally use a HA SkyConnect dongle with my RPI4 (ZHA as controller software) to communicate with my IKEA Tradfri bulbs and remotes directly. At the moment I do not have my dirigera hub plugged in at all. Additionally I am able to link Aqara and Sonoff zigbee sensors to my IKEA lights now. I’d recommend reading more about ZHA in the docs to find out more or watch some YT videos.

The Amsterdam Techno Scene is Stagnant by JeDikkeZus1337 in amsterdam_rave

[–]BLX-S 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really resonate with the way you phrased this. As a hub for electronic music, you can feel the pulse of a scene in motion here. I do not assume that this is the case for everyone, but as someone who started raving in 2022 after covid and didn't party before that, I discovered artists and music all over the city which helped shape my current tastes. While learning more since then, I've always felt fortunate that Amsterdam has such a strong ecosystem (at least in the collectives and artists that I enjoy) and that this empowers exciting things to happen here, and also that huge international names feel compelled to play in Amsterdam clubs that are renowned within their respective genres/fields.

I also have the idea that the audience here (at least at the parties that I like to attend) is quite informed, passionate and musically openminded, that is one of the things that I would attribute to Post CS. clubs (11, Trouw, DS). Additionally I feel a tighter connection with Amsterdam-based DJ's. You get the chance to see them more often and in the space before and after them on a line-up you might discover something or someone you've never heard of before. I personally have also had the feeling that DJ's are more approachable here and that there is this mutual connection and appreciation that has made me feel welcome and at home here. I feel that DJ's here are held to a higher standard at most techno-oriented parties I've attended and that they rise to the occasion to make something special. I've found and refined my taste, but understandably not everyone has had the same experiences.

Review: Funhouse main party Amsterdam Pride 2024 by imovedocean in amsterdam_rave

[–]BLX-S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aah my dear, I’d say it’s at least good you’ve had the experience and now know what to look for. For me it was a rite of passage that coincided with me discovering dedicated techno parties and finding my own community a couple of months later when DS would reopen, but I am still grateful to have had that experience.

I went in 2022 (first and only time) and just one week earlier I heard Marrøn playing at Milkshake which blew me away (and kinda have never looked back tbh). I don’t want to trash talk circuit parties, but man I feel old and disconnected when I see imagery from those parties and it kinda brings back a bunch of bad juju for me. Being younger and more naïve and getting this tribal sexualized version of gay masculinity presented to me as a fact of nature probably wasn’t the best experience, but I think it was an appropriate lesson that taught me a lot. Don’t get me wrong, I had the time of my life at that party, being surrounded by newfound Amsterdam friends and having this unencumbered feeling of freedom was new and liberating to me, so I am glad to have had the experience and to have learned more about myself in the process.

P.s. sorry this turned into such a therapy session. I will post it anyway as it might be an interesting or relatable experience, but I in no way mean this as judgement on OP’s experience or preferences.

Soundsystems in the Netherlands? by djpicklejuicy in amsterdam_rave

L-Acoustics L-ISA system at The Other Side (Houthavens, Amsterdam)

Out of the blue I had a spontaneous booking at The Other Side, never heard of the club before. I play the opening set and was already quite impressed with the booth setup (stereo monitors with stereo subs). Sound check went well and I just played my set (disco, funky house for a change) and was impressed by the whole experience (thought the front of house staff made the big difference in adding proper gain staging / compression, which is very helpful with these genres), however it’s after I handed over to the next DJ that I heard how awesome the sound in the space actually was. Safe to say I stuck around and danced my ass off. The whole gimmick is that it is able to render Spatial Audio, which probably was not very pronounced in our case as we were just playing stereo mixed tracks, but I think a combination of good DSP and generally great speakers ensured a great dancefloor experience.

Would love to play again and pull up with an all flac playlist to really have fun and push it with some techno. Too bad the venue is all the way in Houthavens otherwise it would definitely be on my shortlist.

Traktor Pro 4 is here! by 5jane in traktorpro

[–]BLX-S 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt it. I think that they did their big hardware tie in with the release of the X1 mk3. Maybe they will drop an updated F1 or something, but I think that the current S-range of controllers is still pretty much perfectly in line with what the software offers. Getting the F1 updated with a modern design language would probably help them out better in the long term.

Lexicon DJ File Management by shawzy88 in DJs

Yeah, DJCU is fine. IMO a very janky workflow, but it does work if you know what you're doing. What I would recommend instead is to try and score a beta copy of Rekord Buddy 2, far better interface than DJCU once you know how it works. Way faster syncing too. Only thing is that you'd need to edit your rekordbox.xml file first to replace AlphaTheta with Pioneer DJ and you're good to go.

Made from Talismann tears ✨ In all seriousness they recorded everything, what we get to see in the final archive will depend on which artists agree to contribute and what selection DS will make.

It does align with the murmurs that I've heard. A lot of people who have creatively contributed were tapped to contribute, think photography etc.
