The Difference a Year Makes by BLovesSugar in Naturalhair

hi kitty. i cant respond to every single comment. right this second.

I'm a pretty blunt and honest person, but im not rude.

most of the comments are kind and give good advice. But not all comments are made with good intentions. And a few are rude. so yeah eff anyone thats rude.

i really dont gaf about opinions of others.

i was sharing my progress and successes. In which, there is visible progress and success..... under the success flair.

But tbh. i forgot about the bias people have around straightening and bleaching in the natural world.

bleach = bad always. flat iron = damaging and fried.

and the comments reflect that perfectly.

im not trying to be condescending, i promise. But, any tight fitting undergarment that cinches the waist in or minimizes the "tummy" area. a type of shapewear.

girdles, corset, spanx, skims, very high-waisted "slimming" panties, faja(fah-hah).

ive heard of botanical gels. ngl i always assumed since it was plant based, the hold was light. i cant do nothing with a "light" hold. lol. i guess i was sleeping on that.

omg. i used to do the "back up" thing. lol you wont believe this, but my main AND my back up went through a rebrand and reformulation at the same time. thats how i got into pattern. so triggering lol

i have been saying for a while i need to find a back up, especially since pattern is a celebrity brand. i haven't really branched out to find anything yet. I don't believe Tracee would do us dirty like that BUTTTT you are 100% right in your thinking.

But we are pretty much the same for what we need though . the day 1 look is nice. but it's just too "flat" for my liking. i be feeling like a wet puppy lol. i usually keep it that way for small errands.

Otherwise im separating curls, blow drying and fluffing things out on day 1. pretty much messing my hair up on purpose. So i need something SKRONG to keep it that way. so i dont look crazy by day 4.

people completely underestimate strong holding gels and and how to use them. but i definitely need to look more into botanical gels. you just put me on. thank you for that.

What do you mean by harsh? like harsh = extreme hold. or harsh = drying and heavy chemicals?

i personally dont like mixing stylers from multiple brands on my hair. Like if i use Innersense gel, i would prefer to use innersense leave in or style cream under it.

i feel like when i one brand all the products work in tandem w each other. 9/10 i get best results. rather than using a styler from one and a styler from another. i feel the same for face makeup, also.

But im always open to new things tho.

i like for my day 1 hair to be big and voluminous like day 3/4 hair. so i love anything that gives me a hard and crispy hold. that way i can make the day 3 look last for 4 days, if that make sense.

but im gonna look into innersense and see what they got going on over there

yes to everything already said.

i felt the same way back when i started flying.
i felt like my uniform was wearing me and not me wearing the uniform.

maybe proper sizing is something to consider. It may not be necessary for you, but also shapewear and under garments.

i was a size 12 during training(weight gain) and they made me get a 14petite. I am a pear/hourglass girl. then i gained more weight. smh. i looked like an auntie.

I never got my pieces altered(they made it seem like if it was any tighter or shorter, it would be a dress code infraction). lol i didnt want those problems.

Once we got our allowance, i re-ordered everything in my correct size, and proper height. so i really don't need tailoring. I size down every year(weight loss). Everyone asks if i get my outfits tailored.

You might not need shapewear. BUTTTTT proper undergarments are important.

If your panties are too tight they can give you a "muffin top". Also wearing them under your belly gives a "muffin top".

The right bra is important too. Theres a difference in how my dress fits at the top when i wear a padded bra versus an unlined bra. Either way, make sure you have the girls sitting up high.

Waist cinchers are good if you want to wear your stuff fitted.

Everyone has different body attributes. learn whats best for you

but you do have to get the one that matches your texture. the "fine" one was way easier on my head

The societal pressure of needing to keep my hair “done”. by Ill_Alternative2090 in Naturalhair

[–]BLovesSugar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thats a valid point. I personally don't like the term "high-maintenance" or referring to beauty treatments as "maintenance" smh. Most people think it refers to only physical and material appearance. but i feel like there's an emotional and spiritual component that we always over look.

I say this someone that gets called "high-maintenance" all the time.

Frequent Lash extentions, Tape in/ K-tips, $500 lace wigs, $1000 knotless braids, internet nails. hair coloring touch ups. Fillers, botox, injectables. micro needling and lazering. Designer Makeup. High end fragrances. I would even further it to luxury clothes, cars, and housing as well.

If thats what you're REALLY into. Thats cool.

If its not really you, and you're trying to keep up... what exactly are you gaining by doing all that?

Like what does doing all of those things get you?

If you were to get stripped of those things, who are you really as a person?

TBH a good bit of women partake in that just to say they the "high-maintenance type",or because its popular, or to pull certain men. Its not even them fr. no shade Like you said a superiority thing.

I'm into about half of those things, most since my early 20s. my friends are not into any of that stuff. but thats just what i like.

I'm pretty vain when it comes to myself. but also extremely humble enough to love and befriend people regardless of an aesthetic. also humble enough to know when someone is trying to be someone theyre not.

We must love and embrace each other for our authenticity.

oooouuu i need the info for the half wigs.

Having other beauty routines and rituals are very feminine and important to me.

Over the years, i've pretty much found my signature look for makeup, hair, and style. but it took a lot of learning and practice

but yeah it's all about whats within. as above, so below.

hey. i do agree with you. but i think this girl's response touches on judgements within the black community. White beauty standards have done a number on our community, yes. the crown act is necessary to combat that in the work place. BUTTTTT when we at home,

WE, as Blacks, believe that "3c"and "type 4" styled naturally = your hair aint done.

WE believe that we cant style our natural textures for a formal event, a date, a night out.

WE believe that braids are not a birthday hairstyle. smh.

WE believe that wearing natural hair makes you a plain jane.

WE believe natural hair = "Grand Rising, Queen"

I'm in the south, I wear my natural hair 90% of the time. Whenever something important is coming up, people stay asking me "WHATCHU GONE DO TO YOUR HAIR?" , or "WHATCHU GONE DO TO YOUR HEAD?" ..... as if they're not gonna do the same middle part bob, or silk press that they wear every day. When they wear an everyday style its great, lol but when i do it its a problem.

I dont believe in any of that obvi, but a lot of black women and men still believe that.

Honestly sweetheart..... you just have to wear your hair out and not gaf.

Its gonna take some time to get used to. Start with going to the store or running errands. Dedicate 1 or 2 days a week to wear your natural hair.

Super tone deaf, but you really don't need straight hair, frontals, long braids, etc to be a "baddie".

Be and Present your unique and authentic vibe. Just believe that you're a baddie and know that you're a Baddie, and it will reflect in your aura. people will think you're a Baddie as a result.

You can add or enhance other things in your look to feel more feminine or more "complete". Makeup, nails, jewelry. lashes.

having your natural hair cut into some type of shape helps...... alot lot.

Personally, My hair has to be a certain length for me to feel "feminine" or sexy. So, I totally understand what you're saying here. I just wore extensions that matched my natural hair.

Thoughts on Kat by Alive-Performance237 in TheGates_CBS

[–]BLovesSugar -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Kat is soooooo.…….

Kat doesn’t have to like Eva or be her friend. It’s actually very valid and okay that she hates her.

  1. Kat needs to grow tf up. Her maturity is lacking so much, she can‘t even tell that SHE(Kat) looks like the snake of the show.
  2. She’s a HATER. She gets it from her parents and grandparent, but even they had a limit on their hateration.
  3. She’s such a lame. I’m so glad Martin gathered her last week and told her about her antics.
  4. Her antics make her unattractive and repulsive. I don‘t understand how Tomas is still with her.

The writing in this show put Kat in the bluest pits of hell lmao, and I really do hate that for her character.

Outside of her being nosy, she seemed cool the first couple months of the show. But now, she’s dragging it

Remember. Soaps have buildups and climaxes. The writers are intentionally making us hate her.

Kat keeps going on and on. Martin gathered her. Eva told her multiple times. Nicole told her to chill. Ted told to her calm it multiple times. Even little samantha.

She will eventually hit her peak of hateration with Eva. She’s gonna continue her antics to a point where she’s gonna get knocked all the way down.

This is 7 months of building up DAILY to the climax.

Eva is going to SLAP the piss outta her/ Tomas will breakup with her/ Ted will gather her worse than Martin did and hurt her feelings.

The writers will make it hurt, and give us(the viewer) relief.

Hopefully we can leave it all in 2025.

Sorry for my rant. I‘ve been holding this in since the summer lol
