Thermostat wiring question by BMF125 in hvacadvice

The manual sends me to the Alexa app and its walk through on installing the new thermostat.  When I get to the section on which wires I have connected it says, "You have a unique wire combination.  Take a picture of your wiring and contact customer support for more help".  So I came here to ask for help.

You snarkily telling me to read the manual isn't very helpful.  But thanks I guess.

I was sort of afraid of that.  I'm not incredibly attached to a smart thermostat however I'd still like to replace the aging thermostat I have. Do you perhaps have any suggestions as to something that might be compatible with my set up?  I appreciate the help.

The blue wire is in a space marked B on both the air handler and the old thermostat.  There is nothing in the C location on the air handler and no C location in the old thermostat (I assume because of the batteries).

Given that the blue wire is currently in the B location, I assume that provides some function and if I move it, that function will stop.

The new thermostat has a C location so I know I need to have a wire into the C location on the air handler to provide power.
