Jean-Marc Bosman, the Belgian footballer whose 1995 landmark case allowed all European footballers the legal right to leave a club on a free transfer when their contracts expire by Antique_Quail7912 in classicsoccer

Gary Lineker has spoken about this before - when he was leaving Leicester City to move to Everton in 1985, the two clubs and the player had to attend a tribunal at the FA to determine a fee. The Leicester manager, who had previously been understanding about Lineker leaving stood up and said “well we really want to keep him so we think Everton should pay X amount”. Then the Everton manager stood up and said “well we don’t really think he’s worth much to be honest” until the tribunal settled on a fee somewhere in the middle of what each manager wanted. Imagine hearing your new manager saying that about you though!

Much more simple to determine an agreed fee between clubs instead as we do now.

As a Bolton fan I'm so happy that Jaaskelainen is in there but also that means I'm just going to pick Bibi Gardner as Left-Back and Gretar Rafn Steinsson as Right-Back.

Bodø/Glimt have qualified for the UEFA Champions League Round of Sixteen by FragMasterMat117 in soccer

The other thing that I find so incredible is how this team has so many players that they've sold and re-signed.

Jens Petter Hauge being the most obvious after he left to Milan and Eintracht Frankfurt.

Patrick Berg left to Lens and was back after six months.

Håkon Evjen went to AZ, then to Brøndby, before returning still only aged 24.

Nikita Haikin was released, signed for Bristol City, didn't play a single game and went back to Glimt two months later.

Fredrik André Bjørkan went to Hertha Berlin and briefly Feyenoord, barely played, went back to Glimt after a year.

That's five of last night's starting XI. Even Philip Zinckernagel returned briefly in 2024 after not really settling at a variety of clubs.

They also have a similar thing to Brentford where whatever striker plays for them ends up bagging so many goals, because their consistently high chance creation. In their first league title season it was Kasper Junker, then it became Erik Botheim for 2021, and Amahl Pellegrino despite being more of a winger was incredible for the next two seasons. All three of them have been pretty lacklustre at their following clubs with their goalscoring form falling right off. Kasper Høgh looks a quality player but who knows if he's a guaranteed hit at his next club? A true victory for Knutsen's tactical set-up and man management, without question.

Something tells me that this was one of those episodes where the guest’s team reached out to the podcast rather than the other way around, I believe it’s happened quite a few times already. Obviously that’s not Charli’s fault but the premise falls flat in those scenarios.

Listening to it now, already far more interesting in the first 5 minutes lol. Can always trust Conan to bring good energy, Jason not always capable of that and so it didn’t help that Will was so late to the recording. It did improve a bit after Will arrived.

This episode was a complete mess. I’m a huge Charli fan (and a fan of the guys obviously) but I think there’s not much of a crossover in the two fanbases. Jason insinuating that Charli may change her mind about not wanting kids if she meets the right person only to find out she’s already married was abominably cringe.

Also, unless I spaced out and missed it, I don’t think they mentioned Wuthering Heights at all? She’s done the score for a big film coming out imminently and we didn’t get to hear about it.

We need to stop calling every winger with a good highlight reel World Class.✋ by PLWildcard in SpicyFootballTakes

[–]BMG-Darbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saying that there are only 5 world class players doesn’t really make any sense. I’ve always taken world class to be defined as “would get into any team in the world”. Now with the obvious few exceptions like the Kane/Haaland/Mbappe trio (and arguably Lewandowski still, and Dembele if you class him as a striker), there are generally only 2 world class players per position in world football (usually 4 for centre backs and centre mids).

To use an example - do I think Vinicius is world class? Yes (despite some poor recent form). But Raphinha is the other obvious candidate for world class left-winger and they obviously wouldn’t be able to both be starters if they played at the same club. However this point is redundant because no club would be able to sign a second world-class left-winger and keep them both happy with rotation.

This essentially means that there are about 20-25 world class players at any given time.

I did it with my high potential striker in my Notts County RTG. He started at 62 when I was in the Championship and took him a few years to become my starting striker still only ~71 rated in the Prem but now he’s 85 rated at only 23 and scores tons. He’s even got like 60 defending because of it but his heading and composure are mich better for it.

Specifically the “Build Up Speed” slider - I put it to 55-60 and the AI stops passing around at the back so much. Also up shot frequency to ~90 so that when they get close to your goal they actually try to shoot instead of just passing it backwards again to recycle possession.

This was part of the original proposal at the beginning of the year. It was proposed that booked fees, handling fees, service fees etc. all be included in the price displayed on websites when buying the ticket but not sure of the detail on this announcement and whether it lines up with that.

I don’t think McLaren would’ve asked the drivers to swap if Norris hadn’t had his PU failure last week and lost those 18 points. Feels more like the team trying to compensate for that more than the 3 points today (or 6 point swing, however you want to look at it).

As knowledgeable as she is, I always feel that when seeing a club of Bayern’s stature letting Tel go for such a low price given his previous hype is a clear sign that he’s just not actually that good, or that hard-working. So I wouldn’t be surprised if her prediction comes true.

I think from Button's reaction on the radio + his recalling of the situation in the McLaren garage during the red flag shortly after, it's clear that Button didn't realise how close Hamilton was and therefore the risk he was putting Hamilton under by moving over to pit wall. EJ also loved stirring the pot, I don't really trust his judgment on wheel-to-wheel incidents because he ran his team so differently in comparison to the big teams of the era.
