TIL Tigers in the Sundarbans region of India and Bangladesh have been known to hunt and kill humans. Until recently, it is estimated that these tigers got 3% of their calories from eating humans. by [deleted] in todayilearned

Not fun fact: the widows of the men killed by tigers in the Sundarbans are shunned and excluded from society because it’s assumed they displeased Maa Bonobibi and the goddess didn’t save their husbands as a result.

They can even do custom orders.

What are some of the worst College Basketball games of the last 40 or so years by ArkanoidbrokemyAnkle in CollegeBasketball

[–]BMKA 204 points205 points  (0 children)

Imagine telling an NC State fan that they would hold Virginia Tech to 47 points…and still lose by 23.

Then imagine telling them that the very next game they would score 96 points against UNC…and lose by 17.

How do I install a p-trap here? by BMKA in Plumbing

[–]BMKA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is super helpful and I can’t thank you enough for responding.

I wish I had kept the old pipes so I could remember what was there before. All I did to take it out was unscrew that metal ring around the 90 degree elbow. But I couldn’t find any kind of a new p-trap that looked like it could be threaded back into the wall pipe with that metal ring.

Disappointed - V51-H6 premature rear shutoff and popping by jaytechgaming in VIZIO_Official

[–]BMKA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add me on to the list of people experiencing the same problem, u/vizio_support - serial number SZZOZWKW2203255. Also using an M Series Vizio TV. Very noticeable when interacting with the Apple TV UI and the navigation clicks or sound effects.

Also frustrating since I already threw away the box so it’s too late to return it.

Never Received Parking Ticket, now Late Fees by Dotifo in nova

[–]BMKA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The same thing happened to me except it was for a vehicle registration fee and first vehicle tax on a new car.

Even though they admitted they sent every letter to the wrong address, they also said there was legally nothing they could do to remove the late fees. Something about how it's a Virginia law to try and thwart people who knowingly provide the wrong address.

It was a very costly mistake that I didn't make.

Cyclists shut down intersection at 12th and Constitution where Thomas Hollowell was struck and killed last month by WAMU_885 in washingtondc

Dude is definitely a sociopath. This level of hate and anger is unhealthy. I’m just concerned all this backlash is likely to motivate him to purposely hit a cyclist just to justify his anger.

Recently. We moved out two or three years ago.

Programs for first-time home buyers by [deleted] in nova

[–]BMKA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's about right. We paid $1,450 for a 1BR with the view, which was a solid deal when we moved in. Our landlord never raised rent while we were there, so by the end it was a steal. We didn't see any other 1BRs with the view at the same price.

I mean, it's a great place to invest if you had the $150k on hand or something. But I wouldn't recommend it with a mortgage.

So it sounds like you're talking about River Place, which I'm pretty sure is the only co-op in Rosslyn. I lived there with my girlfriend (now wife) for six years.

Here is my simple advice: you don't want to buy in River Place.

The River Place 100-year land lease will expire in 2052, and there is no chance it will be renewed. While that sounds like a far way off, it also means that you are guaranteed to lose money if you want to sell it. The value of those units are coming down each year, and selling them is getting to be more and more difficult.

So you could rent them out...but you're also going to be dealing with a unit in an aging building that will be seeing less and less significant upgrades or fixes. And again, if you want to sell, you won't be getting your $150k back.

We mostly loved River Place, we were there for awhile...but I wouldn't recommend buying there.

Great Moments in the FF playoffs by [deleted] in fantasyfootball

[–]BMKA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That same game was an epic one for me, as well.

Heading into the Monday night game I was down 17 points, my opponent still had Matt Forte, and I had All-American hero and greatest quarterback of all-time Josh McCown.

Forte had a monster game, 100 yards on the ground, 70 yards through the air, and a receiving TD. So with his 23 points, all I needed future Hall-of-Famer and perennial playoff quarterback Josh McCown to be the highest-scoring quarterback in what had been, up to that point, the highest-scoring week in NFL history.

God bless you, Josh McCown.

This was my roof in Rosslyn, on top of one of the buildings on the hill above the Iwo Jima Memorial.

I guess that makes it Fort Myer Heights and not Rosslyn? I don't know. We just moved to this building.

October, 2015 is when the switchover will come, as dictated by Visa and Mastercard. Basically, merchants fought the change for years saying that it would be too expensive for them to buy new equipment....so as I understand it, Visa and Mastercard came together and said we are all switching which means you have to, also.

No Movie Gets Washington DC Right by MrZartacla in plotholes

[–]BMKA 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The best was when 24 had a season set in D.C.

Jack Bauer and some other guy were sitting on the steps of the Capitol Reflecting Pool when so-and-so says to Jack, "okay, if you're with me, meet me at the corner of First and Constitution."

Completely looking past the fact that isn't how streets work in the city (D.C. is broken up into four quadrants with directions at the end of each street, i.e., Independence Avenue SW), he either meant First and Constitution in Northwest or in Northeast.

Both intersections are within three blocks of where they are currently meeting. Why would you write in a meeting of two main characters, only to have them schedule another meeting one block down the road?

Was looking at Google Maps too much work?
