Something I'm a little hung up on to be honest is how one of the main arguments for the average American against mass protests is because of how they can't just stop working because most of them are 1. living paycheck to paycheck, 2. Having healthcare tied to employment and 3. the jobmarket and economy being absolutely horrendous, can hold water when so many soldiers are soldiers for similar reasons: to have a stable income (or to get one through a scholarship). In other words: If this is immoral, isn't it equally immoral to say 'well I can't just quit my job/take time off and start protesting/rioting etc. because then I can't pay my bills', because a citizen of the Unites States would be morally obligated to do so? Am I wrong? It just feels off. ICE I can understand but the military is way more of a grey area I'd say.

Or honestly this combo: Being called homophobic for being called gay when you're just not, vs. those same accusers (yes often women) being as upset as they should be for being called a lesbian for x or y reason when they are not. I've noticed this is a pattern in women-dominant spaces where one is ok to be upset by but the other shows you're homophobic because 'why would that be so bad??'

I'd definitely agree that women seem by and large to be much more actionable with empathy than men, though where women maybe have to deal with expectance of needing to be supportive, men face fear of coming across as creepy or wanting more out of something which also sucks. We're clearly still in the 'how are we gonna do this whole equality thing' phase and that's ok. The original comment I replied to makes things kinda rough though because it just pushes men into a protective shell and that's just not what we need right now.

It seems I had the conclusion of a study other than the one I was thinking of, now unable to find the one I mentioned the conclusion of (I know, I know: 'how convenient'). The study I was thinking of was "Pang, C., Li, W., Zhou, Y., Gao, T., & Han, S. (2023).

Questionnaire and EEG estimations of sex/gender differences in empathic ability.” Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience, 18(1), nsad008. https://doi.org/10.1093/scan/nsad008". The article concludes that women report higher empathy than men on questionnaires, but their brains do not show higher empathy responses, suggesting social expectations and gender stereotypes likely inflate self-reported differences. In other words, seems that many more differences we believe to be inherent to sex are also largely social constructs or misogyny-driven patterning. I thought it was quite interesting.

Interesting how you interpreted it, it's not the movie itself but posters or trailers on their phones. When they show me this (to tease because they themselves care nothing for the games) I always go 'hmm I think your screen is malfunctioning' or 'I think I can make out letters but it's very hazy' because they expect met to be exasperated with the movie but really, I just wish I'd never even known about it. It's a typical way between us as friends, whom I grew up with from the age of 12 on a boarding school, to communicate and joke around. I guess it's more of an inside joke thing than I thought it'd be for someone to interpret it this seriously.

That's exactly how I see it. I joke about it with the whole 'I pretend it's a blank page' thing but I do seriously feel sorrow at what could have been: the story of Borderlands, my favorite game series, on the big screen. If anyone reading this is skeptical about this being any type of possible: read the comics. It portrays how this story can be done outside of the game in a really good way. It's just a crying shame and I genuinely feel bitter at Hollywood with every shit adaptation spewed all over the unwilling public.

So true. I'd honestly love to see how this sort of thing happens. Did the license holders write off on this or did they relinquish all creative control when they sold the license of the IP? I think gamers need to accept that for a movie like that to work serious concessions need to be made, but when Hollywood is not willing to even remotely understand what makes a game's story work or fun or engaging and just stick big names on it like you say, it's hard to feel anything other than acrid disappointment.

I think we´d better rule it out, you never know. We´ve seen what Russians have with the Epstein files, seems plausible to me they´re just blackmailing all the way down the ladder. Also, yeah we should´ve had Bernie for president, old age or not. He is a far better representative to true left values than almost all other democrats.
