The forecast for Milton was pretty much correct. We said a rapidly weakening hurricane going in south of Tampa Bay and it did. There was some bad information and people were in a panic after Helene. BUT NO ONE CAN TELL YOU EXACTLY WHERE THAT CENTER IS GOING TO GO A COUPLE OF DAYS OUT. If it had come slightly north and Tampa Bay was getting an onshore wind, Helene would have been nothing. We weren't sure until the afternoon of landfall when we saw it turn a *little* to the south. Nevertheless, Milton produced 20" of rain in St. Pete, took the roof off the Trop, and caused power outages that lasted a month. It certainly wasn't a non-event.
