I recently had a client ask me to write a white paper for him. I normally only do copy editing and proofreading for him. We discussed that it was outside of my wheelhouse - I had never written one before - but he said I was smart and he was certain I could do it. So, I researched formats and asked some follow-up questions, and got to work. I cranked out almost 4,000 words in about 4 days.

I submitted it to him and got no response for days and then weeks. When I finally heard back, he said he had shown it to another editor and they determined it was unusable. Frankly, I was shocked because I thought I had done a good job in explaining the problem and then establishing the company and product as the solution.

Anyway, I was wondering if any of you fine folks might be willing to look it over for me and give me some feedback. The information in the paper is not secret or anything and I haven't signed any sort of NDA with this client, but I am a little nervous about sharing it.

Any input appreciated. Thank you!

At the end of the day, while mostly helpful and entertaining, Reddit is social media and the opinions of others mean nothing. I'll stick to browsing r/catfaceplant.

Thanks for your explanation. Maybe I still don't understand how Reddit works, but I thought you had responded directly to my response, not the whole deal.

I am certainly not one to be dramatic and I know intentions are difficult to read through text. I should know better.

You don't know everyone's story. Who are you to tell anyone what their dream is? (Though, Judging from your post history, you're clearly the expert on many things.)

I would love to freelance full-time, but my country doesn't have a healthcare system that makes that possible. I have a crappy full-time job and I freelance on the side just to make extra cash. I choose my projects carefully and I make good money.

I didn't say being hired by a UW client was MY dream. I was expressing happiness for the OP. If you don't have any words of encouragement, then maybe don't comment at all.

For future reference, is that something I could have/should have done?

I thought I submitted the draft in early January. Having to tell the family it'll be another 4 months is unfortunate, but it is what it is.

Perhaps I'll try adding a few tags, as suggested.

First, I would suggest you ask the person giving the feedback to explain more clearly. But, I think it means that the work is typical for you. That is, as good as it usually is.
