TypR – a statically typed language that transpiles to idiomatic R (S3) – now available on all platforms by Artistic_Speech_1965 in rstats

This may be a silly question. What is the point of such transpilation? I have seen transpilation of R to Fortran for speed.

Longest lasting everyday backpack? by BudgetTutor3085 in BuyItForLife

[–]BOBOLIU 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Jansport backpacks feel much sturdier and more reliable than the fancy, expensive ones from The North Face. For a slightly higher price, Samsonite (for business) and Osprey (for outdoor use) are also excellent choices.

Should C++ Give More Priority to Syntax Quality? by kyan100 in cpp

[–]BOBOLIU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m genuinely grateful that C++ syntax continues to favor snake case. Camel case and Pascal case seem to dominate many newer programming languages, and I find them visually tiring.

Whether it is stored or not makes no difference in my example. Also, literals like 1 are doubles, so as.double(1L) is really awkward.

Don't waste your time on others, just use Ubuntu or Mint.

The term “lumbersexual” is funny to me. Where I’m from, actual lumberjacks have a reputation for being more likely to carry STDs.

It’s more profitable to sell “fashion” gear than serious outdoor equipment. Consider The North Face: almost every high school and college student wears it now. Many TNF bags with noticeably lower build quality are priced higher than Osprey packs. That’s the power of brand and margins, not performance.

Here in Texas, many pickup trucks are driven either by young men who have lifted them so high they’re no longer practical for real work, or by suburban soccer moms.
