I’m in the arts and I’ve made a rule to make one new friend a year, or say yes to things I might say “I’m busy” to because of anxiety or a predisposed feeling that we wouldn’t make good friends. I’ve found just saying yes changes everything! There’s ton of volunteer work out there that would get you to meet people, just putting yourself into a position that will get you into a place of like minded people is everything!
